Crystal was pacing around her room again. Her parents had just made her aware that she had to go to her "growing up party", some dumb tradition their family had always had when a dragonet was turning eight. The thing was, Crystal didn't "feel" eight. She still felt like she was a small 3 year old, discovering her powers. It was almost every day that she found a new limit to break. She had always been special, her mother, Jade had made that clear. She also taught her how to block out rambling minds, and how to deal with being a hybrid. Her father, Wisp, had also given her tips on hybrid life but was just much less present than her mother. Crystal stopped as she almost ran into the wall. She turned and slowly made her way to her bed, a pile of sheets and pillows. She curled up in them as she reached it. As she started to get more comfortable, she saw a scavenger standing a few meters away. She quietly stood up and started to stalk the funny looking creature. At the last second it turned around. The way that its eyes grew when it saw her was almost comical. Before the scavenger had the chance to run she swept it with her tail. It fell forward and she picked it up off the ground. It made a strange screeching noise, followed by small fists thumping helplessly against her jagged claws. Silly scavenger, I'm not going to hurt you, because if I did, you would be dead already. Crystal thought. She kept her talons clenched around the scavenger as to not let it fall out. Crystal opened her door and stepped into the hall. She walked further until she reached the family room, where her mother and father were sitting, calmly.

"Hello, Crystal" Her father said with a smirk, "done brooding about the party?"

"I was not brooding!" Crystal retorted.

"Ah, whatever." He replied with a smile and a jokeful expression.

Her mother watched them, rolling her eyes, then she saw Crystals clenched claws.

"What do you have Crystal?" she asked.

It had better not be another "pet", I can't handle any more pets! Jade thought, sounding irritated even in thought.

"Don't worry mom, it's not a pet, it's a scavenger I found wandering around my room." Crystal explained.

Mixed reactions came from her parents. Jade was mainly thinking about if Crystal was going want to keep it, and if so, where would they put it. Her father was thinking about how it would look on the dinner table, and how delicious it would be, in the background he was also counting the number of days since he had last eaten a scavenger.

"Wisp! I am not going to let you eat it! Mom, I don't want to keep it as a pet either!"

"Crystal! You had better not sass me again, and if you don't want to keep it or eat it, what are you going to do with it?"

"I'll release it outside!"

She could feel the scavenger's terror as it attempted to escape her grasp. She walked out the front door and set it down on the front lawn. It turned back at her, squeaked and sprinted off. She watched it go down the street, relief flooding it and her. That was when something silver flashed and all the emotion from the scavenger was sucked away. She flew out to where the scavenger was. Now there was just a small pool of thick red fluid. It took her a few moments to realise it was the scavengers blood. Then she realised further that the emotion being sucked away was a sign of it being dead. She looked around, her body filling with rage. She felt her scales change to a black and a red, displaying to everyone how angry she was. She had saved that pathetic creature just for it to die less than five minutes later! She felt people giving her stares and wondering what was wrong with her. Their minds were filling with possible scenarios, she was mad at her parents, she had been dumped by her boyfriend, and many others. She stomped and shook the ground around her. Her uncanny size did that for her. That was when something heavy whacked her on the top of her head. How dare they! She thought using more of the built up rage. Her vision blurred and she slipped into the dark void below her, and fell unconscious.
