It was late evening, Evan had just left school rather late and was heading home to Rosa. He constantly worried about her while he was at school, at times to the point of him not being able to pay attention properly in classes.
He knew she was likely fine, he had always locked the doors upon leaving and told her not to hang out near the windows while he was gone. But he still had a hard time after what had happened to his mother a month back, and he didn't want to lose the last living thing he cared about. Evan sighed and continued walking along the sidewalk, his home wasn't too far fortunately. Evan was about average in height and weight, had short, black hair and enjoyed walking home everyday, it was relaxing even though the region was somewhat dangerous nowadays. He used to enjoy a lot more before his life became more depressive due to his current living state, but he made the best of it with Rosa.
Evan made it home in about five minutes, it seemed calm outside at the time. His town was currently under martial law, so you could imagine what it was like at times. He stuck his key into the keyhole of the door and unlocked it, then opening the door and locking it behind him once he was inside.
Evan put his backpack on the floor and switched on the light in the living room. "Rosa?" He called out for his Umbreon, though she had already made it halfway down the hallway from his room when she heard Evan at the door.
She got to him quickly and gave him a cute gaze with her deep red eyes, Evan leaned down to kiss her right ear and traced his fingers down the sleek fur on her back.
"I missed you today Rosa, I don't have school tomorrow so I'll be here for the day." He grinned and eyed her cute face, he named her Rosa just because of those crimson colored orbs of hers. They were a deep shade of red...like a rose, plus, it was a pretty name. "You hungry?" He sighed, not having eaten much earlier himself.
Rosa nodded without hesitation and swayed her bushy-like tail. She was left mixed berries during the day while Evan was gone, but she ate those quickly and grew another appetite even quicker.
"Alright, come on." Rosa watched Evan walk to the kitchen, in which she happily followed and ran the side of her body against his legs out of affection as he looked through the refrigerator. "You act just like a purrloin sometimes Rose. Want more berries?" Evan watched her for a response, and she nodded before sitting down. Evan pulled out a carton of Oran berries and set it down on the floor for her, giving her a light pat on the head before walking toward his bedroom. "Try to make them last this time!" He said loud enough for her to hear before falling onto his bed and laying on his back. He still had homework to do, and on top of that, he had to have enough money to keep the small, two bedroom house that they lived in.
Evan worked a night job as a cashier from 10PM-5AM on weekends, but he was afraid he would lose his job since the mart was looking to move to a safer region than in Unova if the conditions didn't get better. Evan would move as well, but as a citizen under martial law he couldn't just yet. Companies had a bit more leeway to do so. As if he had enough money to move anyway. The pay for travel in this day and age was expensive enough itself, it being 2030. Evan decided not to stress himself over this for now and got started on his homework, he had to work the next day so he had little time to rest.
Rosa was done with all of her berries in about five minutes, she licked her lips and walked over to her owner's room. Rosa stood in the doorway and saw him focused on his homework, as he usually was at night. She silently walked up to the bed and hopped onto it, which startled Evan while he was laying on his stomach. He looked back at his Umbreon and exhaled from the light scare she'd given him.
"Rosa! Quit doing that!" He took his attention off of her and back onto what he was working on.
Rosa flattened her ears since he'd yelled at her, she wasn't trying to upset him. This wouldn't stop her though, she walked in front of him and laid on the notebook that he was working on, her face close to his as she leaned up and nudged his cheek with hers.
"Rosa.." Evan was going to tell her off again, but instead he gave in and embraced her sides with his arms as he looked down at her and came to a realization. "I know we don't spend a lot of time together anymore, I just need to get us...more stable. I don't know when that'll be, but I'm hoping it'll be soon." He grinned down at her and scratched the back of her neck with his right hand. "I promise I'll give you as much attention as I can until then, I'm sorry for yelling at you like that.." Evan spoke with a bit of guilt in his tone, but felt better when he saw her ears perk in response. He figured he could finish his homework while tending to Rosa. So he spent the night doing just that, he talked to her, massaged her in all of her favorite spots, and fell asleep on her when he was finally done with his homework.
