Hi, formerly Dolphiness, I am JustHereToTry. I hope you enjoy this story, despite its immaturity.

A bell rang. It was finally lunch time and I was starving. I could eat a baby hippo. It was Friday so they had… pizza! I raced to the lunch room. I got two slices of pepperoni pizza, a Gatorade and a chocolate chip cookie and sat down.

I sat at my own special table. I was a "loser." Bet you guys were thinking I was so awesome and stuff. No, I was chubby, had acne all over my face, and wore glasses. And I had about….. a million friends! Joking, I had one friend. His name was Fang. Weird, right?

It was his nickname. His real name was Nick. Nick Griffiths. We were friends ever since we were little and in diapers. We did nearly everything together. Well, not anymore. Not ever since he'd gotten his whorey girlfriend Lissa.

She was the Queen Bee of the school. And the school slut. She wore low-cut tank tops and super short miniskirts that could barely cover her ass. Ever since they got together, she and Fang have been spending all their time together. We still hung out, but barely.

I finished my food and got up. Our school was pretty awesome. Lunch was like a free period. Once we were finished, we would get a break and get to hang out in the halls and stuff.

I was walking past an empty classroom and heard my name. I couldn't be sure so I hid behind the door and eavesdropped. Well, what was I supposed to do?

I heard Lissa and…. Fang?

"Maxine is ,like, such a slut," I heard Lissa's whiney shrill voice say.

"I know, she is a clingy bitch and she thinks I'm her friend!" Fang's deep voice replied.

I gasped. WHAT?

"Did you hear something?" Fang asked, lowering his voice to a semi-whisper.

"No, Fangy, it was ,like, just you." Lissa replied, smacking her gum.

"Yeah, anyway she's just a fat, ugly prude. It would be better if she just left."

"Yeah I, like, know."

I put my back against the wall and slumped down. I was so stupid. How could I think Fang out of all people, especially after he started dating Lissa, would be my friend? I felt something wet and warm slide down my face. I was crying without even realizing it.

I got up and ran. I didn't care if people were staring at me like I was a mutant with wings. I raced home tears sliding down my face.

"Maxine, honey, you okay?" my mom asked when I ran into the house and slammed the door. I was already halfway up the steps.

"Yeah, Mom, I'm fine," I choked out, my voice thick with tears. But my voice cracked on last word. I didn't care. I ran up to my room and fell on my bed. I cried and screamed into my pillow until my voice was hoarse.

Then I decided I was going to move to California with Jeb, my dad. I didn't care if I hated him for cheating on Mom with that lady. I just needed to get away from here. Away from Fang and Lissa and just the horrible life I had here in Arizona. I packed my suit case, just throwing random crap in there.

"Mom?" I asked, looking for her.

"I'm in the kitchen making cookies, Maxine!" she yelled back. I walked in the kitchen, the delicious smell wafting towards my direction. I walked over to where she was, taking cookies out of the oven.

"Oh, I'm gonna miss these," I said, looking at the cookies.

"Miss them?" She asked, obviously confused.

"Um, yeah, Mom. I'm moving to Cali with Jeb."

"WHAT? When were you going to tell me about this, Maxine?"

"Today, actually," I coughed out.

"Why, Maxine? What happened? Just tell me, please," She begged.

"No, Mom, I just wanna go, okay?"

"Fine, but Maxine Jackie Martinez, if Jeb complains one bit…."

Yeah, that was my full name.

"I know, I know ,Mom. I'm not five anymore," I interrupted.

"Okay, honey, I'm calling Jeb in a sec to tell him the "good news," making hand quotations as she said 'good news'.

"Alright, Mom. Thanks a bunch."

Phew. Another disaster would've probably happened if I had called him.

I walked away from the garage door, because I heard the bus stop at our house. Ella.

I heard her walk in. Immediately, Mom and Ella were talking in hushed whispers. I heard her whisper-yell "WHAT?"

Shit.

Now, I'm gonna get a confrontation from Ella.

Great.

It couldn't have come sooner.

"MAXINE MARTINEZ!" Ella thundered.

"Um, hi?" It came out more as a question.

"You're leaving? Are you serious? What the hell happened, Maxine? Why? Does Fang know?
No, no this cannot be happening…." She rambled on.

"Ella, shut up!" I yelled, trying to calm her down.

"Maxine, stay please!" She pleaded. A few tears leaked out of her hazel brown eyes.

"No, I'm sorry Ells. I can't." I told her.

"When are you leaving?"

"Tomorrow," I said, absentmindedly, my mind replaying the day's events.

"TOMORROW!" She yelled.

"Yeah, sheesh, calm down, Ella."

"CALM DOWN! Calm down! You're leaving and you want me to calm down!" She yelled.

"Maxine, you'll call me every day, right?" She asked. Her eyes welled up with tears.

"Of course, Ellie-bellie."

She rolled her eyes at the nickname I'd given her.

"Okay, good. You have everything packed?"

"Yeah, and I have tickets for the plane. You coming to see me at the airport?"

"Yeah, is Fang coming?"

"NO!" I nearly yelled at her. She looked taken back and confused.

"Sheesh, sorry…" she mumbled.

"Sorry, I'm just….stressed," I said, making up an excuse quickly.

"It's alright, Maxine."

"Okay, I feel tired. I'm gonna go to sleep. Besides, I need a good night's sleep for the flight tomorrow," I said wearily.

"Okay then. Night, Maxine."

"Night, Ells."

I climbed up the stairs and just thought about how stupid I was and how Fang had betrayed my trust. I was crying now. Eventually, I drifted off into a dreamless sleep.

I woke up to my stupid alarm clock. BEEP BEEP BEEP

"SHUT UP!" I threw it at the wall.

"Ugh, Mom!" I yelled.

"Yes, Maxine?"

"Can't I sleep in? My flight isn't until 12:00 in the afternoon."

"No, sorry, but you have to get your stuff from school."

"Great."

I got up and got dressed. Yay, I'm going to dumbass retarded school where, now, everybody hates me. Exciting, right?

I grabbed a snack on the way to the bus station. I popped in my ear buds and turned up the music to the max. Soon enough, the bus had stopped at my house. I just listened to music the whole ride. I didn't really want to think about everything that had happened. In just a couple of hours, I had lost my only friend, and I'm moving. Even worse, I have to see him again.

Finally, we arrived at school. I got out of the school bus and went directly to my locker. I took everything out of it. I went down to the front office to give them my text books because they had to check it into the system again or something like that.

"Oh, hi Madison," the secretary said, as I walked in. "I was expecting you!"

"Should I be creeped out? And it's Maxine."

"Oh, deary, me! Sorry, dear. And your mom told me you were moving. I'm going to miss you."

"You never knew me until today!"

"Oh, whatever. Go along now, Madison,"

I growled ", It's Maxine!"

Right then the bell rang.

"Oh SHIT! I'm gonna be so late!"

I grabbed my book bag and didn't bother to stop by my locker. I raced to my language arts class.

"You're late," my teacher, Mr. Jamison, croaked.

"Like I give a shit."

Everybody looked shocked. I wasn't one to do something like this normally.

"Excuse me?"

"You heard me."

"Maxine Martinez, you just landed yourself a detention."

"Yeah, Too bad I'm not gonna be here for it. Pity," I said.

"Why not, Mrs. Martinez?"

"I'm going to Cali!"

"Stop fooling around, Maxine."

"No, seriously. My mom can prove it to you."

"Alright, then you're getting a detention now."

"I don't think I want to."

"MAXINE!" He was getting mad. "NOW!"

"Bite me."

"OUT, NOW!" he literally pushed me out.

"Bye!" He slammed the door. Rude much?

I was bored, so I just wandered the school. Did you really think I was going to sit there in detention? Hell no.

I heard footsteps and talking in the hallways. It soon tripled. I realized that they were switching classes. I rushed off to my second class.

I liked this class. It was science with Mrs. Passmore. She was one of my favorite teachers. She cracked jokes all the time. I was late ,of course

"So nice of you to grace us with your presence," Mrs. Passmore said.

"So I heard you were moving, Maxine," she said.

"Yep, I'm movin' to Cali."

"OMJ, you are such a liar and a slut." A shrill voice says from behind me. Lissa.

"Says the girl who wears skirts that can barely cover her ass. Why don't you do us all a favor and shut up? I'm gonna go deaf soon. And do you want me to prove I'm moving to Cali?"

"Maxine, you're just jealous you don't have a body to show off. And, yeah, prove it!"

"First of all who would be jealous of that? And," I said pulling my tickets out ", need any more proof?"

Her mouth fell open. Her jaw was on the ground.

"Whatever, Maxine," she said.

I noticed at the back of the room, Fang was slack-jawed. I smirked to myself. I felt so different today. What Fang did fueled a new attitude. I liked it.

I went to the back of the room. Me and Fang had assigned seats next to each other. Right after I sat down, a paper airplane landed on my desk. I opened it.

(AN: bold is Fang. Bold italic is Maxine.)

Ur moving? It was written in the familiar sloppy scrawl. Fang's.

Why do you care? I replied. I shaped it back into an airplane and tossed it back. He read it and wrote something and threw it back. I caught it.

Caz ur my friend? It said.

Sure I am. I wrote.

What's dat suposed to mean?

Watevr u want it to mean

? Fine then. Tell me y ur leavin

Why do you effin care Fang? I thought I was a clingy bitch, a fat, ugly prude and that It would be better if I left. I'm leaving because of you. Besides who wants me here anyways?

He read it and looked confused. I snorted. He is just an actor. A really good one. Recognition crossed his face. He gave me an apologetic look and was going to toss me a note back but I flicked him off. He realized it was the end of the conversation because he balled it up and tossed it in the trash can. I was off in my own little world when Mrs. Passmore interrupted.

"I wouldn't mind it if Maxine and Nick paid attention."

I coughed uncomfortably. "Sorry Mrs. Passmore, I won't do it again."

"Good." She said. Suddenly there was a BEEP from the intercom.

"Mrs. Passmore?" the lady in the office speaking through the intercom said. It came out more as a question.

"Yes?" Mrs. Passmore asked.

"Would you please send Maxine Martinez to the office for dismissal?"

"Sure, she'll be there in a second." The intercom shut off.

"Well, bye people." I went over to Mrs. Passmore and gave her a big ole bear hug. "I'll miss you," I said quietly.

"Yeah, I'll miss you, too, sweetheart." She whispered.

I let go of her and waved. I walked out of the classroom.

I went to the front office.

There my mom was waiting with Ella.

"Come on Maxine! We're gonna be late for the flight."

"Alright, alright!" I chuckled. Mom and Ella are such spazzes.

Apparently I had spoken my thoughts, because they both said ", Hey, we aren't spazzes!"

"Uh huh, sure, I'll pretend like I believe that."

They both rolled their eyes.

I dozed off for a while.

"Maxine, wake up!" Somebody yelled. I opened my eyes.

"Mom?" I asked.

"Maxine, thank god, you sleep like hippo!" She exclaimed.

"Thanks, mom. Should I take it as a compliment or insult?"

"Hurry up! Your flight has 50 minutes till take off and this is a huge airport!" This time, Ella was talking.

"Shit!"

"Maxine, language!" my mom yelled.

"It's English. Now let's go!"

I grabbed my carry-on book bag and tossed to on my back and secured the straps. Ella and Mom each grabbed a small suitcase and we all rushed to the airport.

We had gotten to the area where we put our suitcases on the conveyer belt. I stuck a sticker on them that said CALI.

"Holy CRAP, Maxine!" Ella shouted.

"What?" we were about five minutes away from the area where we wait for our flight.

"First, me and mom can't go past this point and your flight is off in 3 minutes!" She yelled frantically.

My eyes widened. Shit! I hugged mom and Ella.

"Goodbye!" I yelled to them as I ran off to my flight, my eyes welling up with the tears of leaving my family and home.

I was just on time, right before they were about to close the airplane's doors. I showed them my tickets and passport. Then I got on the plane.

Hello to a new life.
