An Underland Christmas Poem

'Twas a cold winter's day in the kingdom of White,

And all of the people were waiting for light.

For Alice had told them of an Overland custom, that sounded quite nice and also quite right.

She called it 'Christmas', a time of great joy, when people were happy and there was never a fight.

There were gifts to be given, and family to visit, and peace, love, and harmony were always put first.

So all of Marmoreal had stepped up to the plate and brought Christmas to Underland- a mighty tough task.

They each had a job, and did it quite well, putting their talents to use because their Champion asked.

Tarrant made hats of green, red, and white, while Thackery cooked all day and all night, making a feast like had never been seen-with occasional tosses of a small soup tureen.

Ilosovic Stayne, and his lady Alannah, were carting a tree from the Wood to the Palace,

And were met on the steps by Tarrant and Alice.

Together they four dragged the tree to the Hall, and Mirana clapped eagerly and grinned at them all.

"That's a wonderful tree, and its size is quite nice, so let's start the decorating-but first, knock off some of that ice."

Once the tree was all free of ice and of snow, the decorating began, and-

At first it was slow, but once Alice showed them just how to do it,

The Underlanders discovered there was not anything to it.

The ornaments they had were many and varied,

From ones shaped like toves, to ones made of berries.

There was also a few that were shaped like a globe,

And even one of Time in a robe.

There were candies tied up in red silken bags,

And even one that looked like a friendly old hag.

There also were candles that made the tree glow,

And finally Alannah threw on a handful of snow.

Then finally the star was put on the top,

And the tree was all finished-a marvelous job!

Then came time for the presents, and as paper was torn,

Sounds of delight pierced the cold winter morn.

Tarrant received a nice bolt of cloth and a fine set of needles from his lovely wife,

While Mirana received a new dress, one of the nicest she had seen in her life.

Thackery received some fine wooden ladles, and a beautiful teapot that couldn't be broken.

I don't have to say he was pleased with this token.

Alice received a lovely blue dress,

And also a ribbon so she'd look her best.

From Alannah, Ilosovic received a lovely sharp sword,

And his eye lit up at the perfect reward.

He gave to his lady a gown of red silk, and Alannah smiled at his mischievous grin.

"The gown is for later," he said with a wink, and Alannah blushed at the promise within.

Once all gifts had been given, and thanks had been said,

They all went to the feast, and then-off to home and to bed.

As they all snuggled down on that cold winter night,

The Underlanders knew they had done Christmas right.

Mirana decided that since it had brought them great cheer,

That she would be sure to have Christmas each year.

And now this author will break the Fourth Wall,

And wish Merry Christmas to each and to all!
