It
was Saturday night, and everything was going fine. ZIM was in his VootRunner
looked for some other human technology to log into the computer, like he did
with the police squad car the other night… Now there was one less 'mini-van' to
worry about when he took over Earth. He cruised the clouds and turned around to
go home.
The
sky erupted around ZIM! Colors, sounds, bangs, shimmering sparkles, flaming
bits of things, all exploding around him! The VootRunner spun out of control.
ZIM
tried to stabilize the VootRunner, but he had to eject. The ship careened off,
and, by some million-to-one chance, struck the pig balloon (really the
VootCarrier), which GIR was taking for a walk some blocks away. The little
robot looked up at the pig, shrugged, and tugged it along.
ZIM's
long, piercing shriek was drowned out by the explosions around him. The humans
must have known he was coming, but how?! That would be answered later, but now,
he was falling!
"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHH!"
ZIM yelled as he fell to Earth, the lights bursting blinding him. As he crashed
into a full garbage can, he picked off pits of trash and stood up shakily. He
saw an electronic banner shimmering above him reading 'Happy Fourth of July!'
Not knowing what this meant, and barely understanding the human letters, ZIM
salvaged some bits of things to fashion into a disguise. Luckily, someone had
broken their sunglasses and thrown them out.
The
Invader stepped around the exploding cannons that had nearly killed him and he
was a sight to see. A turban made entirely out of those glow sticks that had,
well, run out of glow covered his antennae and the black sunglasses covered his
eyes. He made his way home, but just as he was leaving the area, which was
crowded with humans sitting watching the anti-alien cannons, he guessed, stood
up.
ZIM
saw them turn toward the explosions, still enraptured by the pretty colors. A
tune of some kind began to play and some sang words along with the music. He
stood with them, not wanting to draw more attention to himself by dishonoring a
custom.
When
they sat down, ZIM headed home, and encountered GIR poking at the VootRunner.
The VootRunner was only slightly scraped and needed no repairs at all. ZIM
sighed and took off the ridiculous disguise. Sitting heavily on the couch, he
silently watched GIR roll around for a while, then the little robot got up.
"Hellooooooooooooo!"
GIR sang, as if just realizing ZIM was there. ZIM made a noise in reply.
"Do
ya tomorrow is?" GIR asked, and ZIM didn't answer. His eyes still stung from
the bright lights.
The
little robot smiled, and stepped out of his dog costume. "Tomorrow is
Independence Day! Come to the festival at the city park! Fireworks, food, and,
for the kids, glow sticks! Sunday July 4th 5pm-10pm! Don't miss it!"
GIR quoted. ZIM just stared.
"
'Independence Day?' What nonsense is this? Fireworks…perhaps these 'fireworks'
are the bright lights that crashed the VootRunner… But I have been to too
many human functions lately. Skool is a full-time task, GIR. I have no time for
this 'festival.'" ZIM saw that GIR hadn't taken in a word.
GIR
smiled at him. "You brought me gloooooow sticks!" GIR cooed.

And
so ends ZIM's little adventure with fireworks! Here's to the rib-shattering
explosions that I detest!
