better
003. unmask

Note: Ohhh, hey look, I'm not dead. Found this story on my flash drive, probably about eight months old. So, uh, here you go!

Kurt held the mask in his hands, the material taught between his fingers. He could be wrong, he told himself. He could be misunderstanding what it meant.

But, no, because suddenly it all made sense. It all added up better than he ever could have imagined.

He heard a sharp intake of breath and looked up to see Blaine coming into the room. Blaineswallowed tightly, desperately searching Kurt for some sort of sign as to what his reaction was, but the brunette's face was completely passive.

"You know," Kurt said, suddenly looking back down at the mask. "I always thought that when I unmasked Spider-Man it would be one of the many times he saved me from something crazy." He chuckled, and Blaine allowed himself a small smile. How many times had he saved Kurt, now? "I thought it would be something so dramatic and intensely romantic, that he would be some handsome stranger and it would be hard because he would try to be noble and want to protect me so we couldn't be together… but I would convince him otherwise." He ran his fingers over the mask. "I never thought it would be in finding it in your bag when I was looking for the textbook you borrowed."

Blaine's face fell, his cheeks flushing. "I'm sorry I didn't live up to your expectations," he said quietly.

Kurt looked up at him, his face looking hurt at the insinuation. "I didn't mean it like that," he explained. "I mean… this is better."

Blaine looked at him, disbelieving. "Better?" he questioned. "How—"

"Because I'm already in love with you," Kurt said quietly. "And I've hated feeling like I have to make some choice because it's wrong to love you both." He smiled. "Now it makes so much sense because you're… you. And it isn't that I'm in love with some masked mystery man, it's you, just as it has been… I've loved you for so long."

Blaine stared at him, feeling his heart pound. "Kurt, I—" he broke off, words failing him. He swallowed. "I've waited so long to hear you say that," he managed. Then he moved forward, cupping Kurt's face and kissing him gently. Kurt eagerly returned the kiss, reaching for Blaine's shoulders.

The mask fell to the floor, forgotten.
