Pointless

Taylor turned around and leaned against the counter facing the girl who agreed to follow him. She seemed pretty calm and collected. Cool. The lights were less bright in the back corner they went to. He flicked his long black bangs out of his eyes as he pulled out a cigarette and lit it with a lighter. He stretched his arm back down to reach his pants that hung low on his hips to return his lighter to his jeans. The music still blared as he watched a girl walk past wearing the same jeans he had on.

"You smoke?" The first girl spoke. A hood hid her face and she sat on the counter beside him. Taylor looked at her with blank eyes.

"Yeah. My friends said they helped relax you. That's a lie, too. They're stimulants. Smoking is pointless anyway"

She looked down at him, " then why do you smoke?"

"The addiction," He looked away back toward the dancing, staring at nothing. "I hate being controlled by an inanimate object. Its pointless."

"You don't quit…why?" He could feel her gaze burning in the side of his head and held back a sigh. Taylor knew he was the one to ask for such a conversation.

"The endless effort, its pointless." He turned his head to his head to his left but tried not to stare at the legs that appeared in his view. This chick was definitely not so bad. Inhaling on last, long puff from the cigarette, he snuffed it out.

"So… you don't like parties?"

"They're pointless"

Beast boy broke away from the dance floor, trying to determine if 555 was a legitimate area code. He wasn't as good at Cyborg at getting numbers, but he had his fair share. Wondering off to the drink table, he passed a dark corner that reeked of smoke, both legal and not so legal. Catching a glimpse of Raven, he heard some guy complain about his friends and parents.

Beast boy briefly wondered why Rae would listen to some random guys problems rather than his. Then again, Raven never showed interest in video games and wouldn't show sympathy for an unbeatable level. He approached the drink table thinking with a chuckle, 'Raven would have a fake area code of 666".

"My family is pointless"

Taylor was actually enjoying this conversation. This girl was like a shrink but he still didn't know her name.

"My name's Taylor. I don't like it. It seems pointless." he offered.

"Its not that bad."

"So, what about your parents, oh nameless one? I've been bitching about mine for the last fifteen minutes." Taylor continued the subject. Who cared if she didn't want to say her name?

"My friends are my family, whether I want to admit it or not. They are annoying as hell though." Her monotone slipped and she sounded like she just came across the realization herself.

"No folks?" The phrase 'curiosity killed the cat' danced through Taylor's mind as he asked this. He looked up to see her wistful gaze.

"Well, I never really knew my mother. I always wanted to go visit. Kind of pointless now." The girl looked back at him after the last sentence. He tried not to push it.

"And you're dad?"

The wistful ghost of a smile returned on her face as she looked toward a green boy in the crowd.

"He's Hell." The Green kid created a big commotion when he spit his drink all over his dance partner from his nose. Taylor didn't press it, but the girl's ghost, turned into a smile. Well, that conversation wasn't pointless at all.

AN/ that's my not really funny drabble. It takes place at the Club in 'Sisters' and I made up Goth guy's name . . . and gave him girl pants… just because. I will admit the story is like the title, Pointless. But I just had to write it.

Thanks for reading.
