Forgotten to Remembered

An Oswald the Lucky Rabbit One-shot.

Once a star, then forgotten.

Once forgotten, then reminded.

This was Oswald the Lucky Rabbit's life. He was a star in the late 20's back in the 20th century. He stared in about over twenty short films that all stared him! He was famous, he had dolls, figures, heck, he was even on a candy bar! Walt Disney was his creator and his father, until he was taken from him in a blink of an eye.

A contract bounded him to Universal studios, but his father quit his job. Oswald wanted to come with him, but the deal was done and soon stardom became boredom in mere seconds. Every year, shorts that came out were slowly eating away at his fame, they became so... Bad. Each short was becoming more and more stale and soon people were growing tired of Ozzie preform.

Then, his design. Everyone in the company believed that, to make Oswald fresh again, they needed to change his design. Oswald went from Original, to having more clothing, to becoming white furred, and then being more realistic and changed his fur color to a brownish gray. Oswald then was locked in storage, forever to be forgotten until he faded from the memories of everyone. It then was apperent that Oswald's father created another character whos face was everywhere.

"Mickey Mouse..." Oswald always muttered the name with spite in his voice. Mickey was his replacement, his new version, his final design, and Oswald... Felt like he was just a beta for Mickey. Oswald felt betrayed, lonely, and saddened. Years were passing and Oswald stayed in the storage of Universal Studios for a long time.

Then... It was the year 2006...

Winter made the forgotten storage cold and soon a warm rush of air flooded into the room as the storage was opened. "Are you Oswald the Lucky Rabbit?" A man asked the black and white toony rabbit. "Yeah? Who are you?" Oswald looked up and saw he wore a pin of Disney on. "Don't tell me. Are you Mickey's lawyer going to sue me for looking like him?" Oswald said, the man smiled and said one thing to him. "Welcome back, Oswald." Ozzie's eyes opened wide with confusion, what did he mean?

"You have been involved in a trade for Disney and you are back in business." The man said as he picked Oswald up in his arms. "Your coming home with us, Oswald." The man smiled as Oswald had the largest smile grow on his face. "I am going back home... Home..." The word felt so foreign. He never had a proper home until now. The man put Ozzie in his car and they drove off, towards Disneyland.

Oswald was amazed at how much Disneyland has changed over the years, seeing the opening day on television, it grew to being something extraordinary. Mickey walked up to him and smiled, giving Oswald a big hug. "Welcome back, older brother!" Despite all the hatred Oswald harbored for the mouse, he couldn't help but hug Mickey back, tears fell from Ozzie's eyes from all the joy in his heart. Looking up at the gates of Disneyland, Oswald looked back at Mickey who nodded gently to hid brother. The gates were to be opened by him, and with a massive push, the gate opened.

Oswald was back in business, go on our Lucky Rabbit.
