1. Ignore her presence
She's already at her desk when you walk into work the next day, and you can't stop yourself from taking a long look as you take your own place. Does she look hurt? Tired? As crushed as you still feel?
Erin meets your eyes and gives you a small, wobbly smile. You turn around and face the wall. Maybe a little childish. Well, definitely. You know that. It's not exactly her fault that things have ended, after all. It pretty much amounted to a mutual decision, and you know she liked you, cared for you. Last night, though, you spent too many hours wondering what would've happened if she'd cared MORE, if she'd actually wanted to fight for the relationship and the potential you were certain it held.
Not that it matters anymore.
You open your desk drawer and take out a small rubber band. As a distraction, it'll suffice.
"Jay." Oh, shit. You always knew she had balls but she's standing right in front of your desk, and you can see her hands when you allow yourself to take a quick peek. You want to twine your fingers with hers. You'll miss that. "Jay?"
Her voice is quieter the second time. More insistent, though.
"Are you - "
Ignoring you? Trying to, Erin, yes. It's more difficult than you had anticipated, however. She's standing too close to you and you're pretty sure you can identify exactly which perfume she's wearing.
She lets out a small huff of what you think is frustration, and walks away. You're better than this, and so you try not to feel guilty.
