I will NOT let this ship, my lady, die!
Kirk slammed his feet against the core again and again until finally it shifted. The force of the core coming back online threw him into the wall surrounding it.
Kirk drew all the energy he had remaining in his body and forced himself to crawl back to the door.
Slowly, he managed to close the inner door to the core; preventing any more radiation would leak into the smaller chamber.
Blearily, Kirk looks out and sees Spock. He looks…concerned? Sad? Shocked? It's getting hard to think.
"How's our ship?" Kirk's voice was weak, so different from its usual tone.
"Out of danger." The tone of Spock's voice gave away more then he probably meant to.
Kirk knows that they continue to speak for a little while, but can't quite make out the words with his mind fading with the exhaustion.
Struggling, he cleared his mind just enough to form a single sentence.
"I…want you to know why I couldn't let you die…why I went back for you…"
He sees tears falling down Spock's face as he replied. "Because you are my friend."
With his last bit of strength, Kirk moves his hand to the door. His eyesight failing he almost misses when Spock places his hand on the other side of the thick glass. Spock's fingers form that Vulcan symbol. Kirk tries to force his fingers into the same symbol.
As the last of his consciousness fades, Kirk manages to form one more thought.
The ship is safe.
Hey…another Star Trek Into Darkness drabble. This one a little more serious. I may do more drabbles. Maybe some from Khan's point of view…I am not sure yet. But hey! Tell me what you think.
