I looked up slowly.
Several grey clouds were stretched out across an evening orange sky. Something brushed my legs and I noticed where I was standing. A field of grass that was a strange color somewhere between green and brown; I couldn't be sure whether it was alive or dead. Somehow, I felt that it didn't matter. It was strange; everything felt… suspended.
I began to turn around, scanning to see if anyone was with me. At first, I couldn't see anyone or anything, just the grass spreading in every direction. But I didn't feel lonely. A gentle breeze caused the grass the rise and fall like the waves of the an ocean. It was then that I noticed someone lying in the grass watching the unmoving sky.
I walked over cautiously. When I knelt by his head, he didn't seem to notice. I knew that I hadn't seen him before, but I also knew immediately that I wanted to get to know him. I felt a twinge of an emotion I couldn't quite explain every time I looked at his face. It was a strange mixture of nervousness, embarrassment, and desperation. He was undeniably attractive. His hair, his eyes, everything about him was warm and comforting. As awkward as it made me feel, I couldn't help looking at him. But he either chose not to acknowledge that I was there or couldn't see me in the first place. I wanted to reach out to see if I could touch him, but I couldn't overcome the sense of nervous fear. It took a while, but I let myself relax. I just sat curled by him, my chin resting on my knees.
I wondered what we were waiting for. The sky never changed color, the clouds never moved, and since he had arrived, the wind never blew. Reality had seemed to bend itself around this moment. But that was fine with me.
Even after an immeasurable amount of time, I wasn't tired, or hungry, or thirsty; I never got uncomfortable even after staying still for so long. He remained in the same position the entire time as well, his hands behind his head as he gazed upward. He blinked and breathed but didn't say anything; he never looked at me or anything else except the sky. I hadn't said anything either. I was quite happy just to be there next to this person I had never met and enjoy the silence.
Unfortunately, nothing can last forever. Eventually, I would have to go back to reality.
And go back to reality I did.
I woke up.
