Just a dream...
Levi turned around in the bed, finding her soft little body pushed against his, the copper hair tickling his nose. He sighed out in relief, and rested his chin atop of her head to get the hair out of his face.
"Mm.." She hummed softly as she felt him shift, and she wrapped her arm again around him. All these years in the military brought Petra from a girl who could sleep with the canons firing around her to someone who would wake up when her partner moved.
Partner…
It was such a small title, like saying he was her business partner. Perhaps he was her business partner. She did invest her emotions, her time, her energy, and most importantly, her heart into this secret relationship. She gave everything up for this cranky man.
"Mm to you too." He grumbled his voice gruff from snoring. He snored. Loudly at that. Who would have known that the humanity's strongest man was a loud snorer?
"Good morning Captain.." She corrected herself, with a tiny smile on her face. He was so lovely in the morning..
"Good morning Petra." He replied, and nuzzled her hair as a small greeting. He was never a man of big affections, of loud, boisterous gestures of love and care. And that was good when you're trying to keep your relationship hidden.
They were doing a great job in hiding it. Nobody besides Erwin knew about it. And how Erwin knew nobody will understand. Perhaps because he knew Levi before he met Petra. Perhaps it was because it was that one accidental time when Levi laid his hand on Erwin's knee instead of Petra's.
Perhaps.
"Did you sleep well?" She asked him softly, her fingertips running over his back, feeling the small scars that littered his skin. The reason all of their outfits were so long was to hide the fact they were all scarred pretty badly. Even Petra wasn't spared of it.
But Levi had so many scars, Petra couldn't even count them all. But she knew them, she knew how to caress his hurt skin, and cover the scars with her love and affection.
"No. I dreamt of something unpleasant." He said, and as an instinct he pulled his lovely, lovely girl close, and buried his nose in her hair, his eyes shut tightly.
Petra cracked her soft brown eyes open, despite being still pretty sleepy.. "Oh?" She asked softly, and laid her palm over his side, just a bit under his arm. She watched him, but he wasn't replying. His silence was something she was used to, but.. It didn't feel right.
She moved her hand up, and laid it over his cheek, gently stroking his cheekbones. "Captain?"
"Levi. Call me Levi, but just for.." He swallowed heavily, and kept his eyes closed, as the dream came back, seeing her broken, bloody body against the tree trunk, her eyes, who are now so lovely, so warm, were empty, soulless. Petra is dead, a voice told him, as if saying something would make him feel better. Make him understand.
"Levi." She said softly and sat up, despite the tight grip he had on her. She leaned down to him, brushing her lips along his. "Levi." She whispered gently, and ran her fingers through his hair. "Levi." Her voice was sweet, gentle. Like the touch of the softest wind going over the burns on his skin. "Levi." She pressed her lips to his, and he gripped her waist, since that was the only thing he could still hold onto when she had sat up. "Captain.." She suddenly whispered, and he groaned. Didn't he just tell her not to call him that?
"Captain, wake up.." his fingers twitched, but there wasn't her soft, white skin to squeeze onto, to caress, and kiss.
"Captain, we will be late, come on.."
A hand shook his shoulder, and he cracked his black, empty eyes open.
Just a dream.
