-Sunshine in Winter-

Chapter One

Snow slushed as the teen stepped down onto the grey sidewalk; cars lazily drove by to avoid splashing him in the muddy snow as he walked. He held his black and grey backpack in one hand, slung over his shoulder. He had cocoa brown hair, dark eyes, and a florid face. He wore his dark grey baseball hat, and dark grey sweatshirt, with orange writing and blue jeans.

Winter break had just ended, and Adam was disappointed to go back to school, but at the same time he was very excited. He was tired, but he was also oddly awake from his excitement from seeing his friends again after being snowed in for most of the winter. Most of all, he was excited to see his best friend, Linden, who he might have a crush on. Linden had short wavy hair, with bangs combed up to reveal his forehead. He had misty blue eyes, and fair skin that had been tanned by the sun.

Adam saw the front of the school as he approached. Inside he could see some of the guys he often hung out with, but he wasn't interested in seeing them. He only wanted to find Linden, it had been too long since he'd last seen him. All winter break he'd been texting him off and on about how much he wanted to play basketball with Linden. Adam doesn't like playing basketball, he isn't very good at making baskets, but he wouldn't mind playing with Linden.

He walked inside and sat down at one of the tables in the commons to play games on his phone waiting for Lindon. The minutes felt longer than normal for Adam, but then he felt a playful jab on his side.

"Hey," Adam heard said whispered from his right. Turned to see the speaker, Linden. He smiled back at Adam. Linden wore a light grey sweatshirt and light blue jeans. Similar to Adam's dark grey baseball hat, Linden wore a light grey one.

"Hey Linden." He said happily. He watched as the taller blond moved to sit down right next to him.

"How was winter break?" Linden asked.

Adam smiled and responded, "It was okay, I was stuck in the house most of it though, as you know." Linden chuckled and shook his head in agreement.

"Yeah that sucked. I'm glad that we can hang out again though," Linden looked down for second and then back up at Adam, "hey do you want to walk around and stop at my locker?"

"Sure dude. " Adam responded. They stood and gathered their bags.

As they walked out of the cafeteria, Adam couldn't hide his excitement at seeing Linden for the first time in two long weeks. On the other hand, Linden was just as excited, if not more; he had a good way of hiding it though. As Adam was obvious with all of his emotions, Linden wasn't unless he wanted to.

Linden and Adam walked pass the office in the high school, and they walked down the hall towards the gym.

"I thought we were going to your locker Linden."

"Well I never said which one." Linden replied.

Adam sighed and the two stepped into the empty gym.
