Selby Corcoran was anything but emotional. She was dirty, painfully proud, infamous, and would do anything to get what she wanted. At first glance she seemed innocent, but when you get to know her, she wraps you around her finger with her cold, darting eyes. Although strong, she was never able to achieve that one dream- Broadway. The single word sent shivers down her spine. Everything she wanted, all wrapped into one. Audients, singing, acting, dancing, awards, even. She was good at every one of those.

But, after many years of hard work and determination, she was still turned down. She was heartbroken, and everything she worked for- down that stupid drain they call stardom. She was broke, too. No money, no job, no suitable place to live. So she decided it was a good idea to earn some extra money. The first thing that came to her mind was to become a surrogate. She didn't know why she thought of it, maybe it was because she was young and had the urge to have kids? Well, she didn't have time for that. She was headed to the top.

She met two nice men- Jerry and David, who wanted a baby so badly. After tests, interviews, and many unnecessary dinners for the men to "bond" with her (she found it flat out annoying, she wanted it done and over with), the two men accepted her as their surrogate. After months of pregnancy and hardships, the day came. All Shelby could hear was her own screaming, yelling, even cursing at the doctors to get that damn baby out of her body. But then, when it was done and over with, the nurse set the baby on the table and cleaned her off as she wailed. Then, it hit her. This was her baby. Her baby. Not Jerry's or David's. The tears came and she felt this unfamiliar ache in her heart. She called out to her beautiful baby girl. She couldn't see her very well, the nurses where surrounding her and talking amongst themselves.

"C-can I see her?" Shelby's voice was soft and broken as the tears spilled over, one by one.

One nurse, earlier referred to as Robbin, turned around.

"I'm sorry, not at the moment, her dads want to see her. You may see her later."

Shelby bit her lip from saying something stupid. This was her baby, and she didn't get to see her precious face? Did they look alike? Same eye color? Did she have her nose?

"Please? Just for a second-" She extended and hand and tried to get out of bed; she couldn't control herself, her heart was ordering her body to see her baby girl. A nurse stepped in front of her and gently pinned her to the bed.

"No, if I recall, you signed a contract. As soon as the baby is born, she goes straight to the two men. Stay in bed-"

Shelby's voice was louder this time. "Its my baby! Let me see her!" She fought to get up, but failed. She watched the nurses as they cleaned and primped her baby. She watched closely, and, for a moment, through a small spot in between where two nurses were standing, she saw her baby's head turn slightly to look at her true mother. Shelby's breathe was taken away as she stared at the beautiful girl. She looks just like me, she thought. She thought back on the name she, Jerry, and David had decided on.

RachelBerry.

For that one moment of eye contact between mother and daughter, there was a spark. And for the first time in the young girls life, she stopped her fit of screaming to give Shelby was small smile. Shelby could tell, just by that one second, her baby was going to grow up and be just like her. She could see those bright stars in her eyes, the brave quirk in her smile- she was going to be a star. And when the nurses wrapped her up in a fluffy white towel and picked her up to see her dads, Shelby waved slowly.

"Goodbye, my baby girl," she whispered. "my Rachel Berry."
