Sam & Dean had finished their latest job in some podunk Nebraska town, and were once more preparing to hit the road. They had gassed up, grabbed breakfast, and had even actually paid their hotel bill. As they headed out of town, Dean flicked the radio on and wasted no time in finding the classic rock station, while Sam was digging through various news reports he had downloaded the night before. After a while, The Allman Brothers' Ramblin' Man came on. Sam looked up from his laptop and over at his brother, "You ever notice how the radio almost always seems to play an appropriate song?" he asked.
Dean stared at his brother a moment, before moving his eyes back to the road, "What the hell are you talking about Sam?" he responded.
"It's just that, here we are two guys who've lived on the road almost their entire lives and the second we leave a town and get back on the road the radio starts playing Ramblin' Man. That doesn't seem a little strange to you?" he asked again.
"Look, Sam. The radio is not synched up with our lives, and it doesn't tell our future," Dean said, with finality. He reached out and turned the volume down before turning back to his brother, "What have you got for us next?" he asked.
"Don't quite know yet, I got a few things I'm looking at," Sam said. Dean reached out to turn the radio back up and after a minute or two, Journey's Wheel in the Sky blared out of the Impala's speakers. They listened to the entire song before Sam turned down the volume and spoke, "Come on Dean, I mention that I haven't figured out yet where we're headed and all of a sudden that song comes on? That's a little fishy," he finished.
"What the hell's so fishy about Journey?" Dean asked.
"Did you hear the line about not knowing where I'm going to be tomorrow? That's our life Dean, I swear to God, this radio somehow manages to play a perfectly appropriate soundtrack to our life," Sam insisted.
"Look, for the last time Sammy, this radio is not playing the soundtrack to our life! Now, do you have a new job for us or not?" Dean asked, angrily.
"Pretty sure. Austin, TX four days ago guy with no history of anger issues or mental problems kills his wife, three kids, and then himself. Not really too crazy in and of itself, but there have been two more cases of the exact same thing in the last two months. Always a male with sound mental history who has a stay at home wife and three kids," Sam finished.
"You thinking demonic possession?" Dean asked, as he began to calculate the quickest route south to Texas.
"I'd say it's our best bet. How long do you think it'll take us to get there?" he asked.
"It shouldn't be too long if we drive straight through," Dean said, as he turned left onto the southbound ramp for I-35. As they hit the highway he turned up the volume on the radio, just in time to hear the opening riff of AC/DC's Highway to Hell. He and Sam turned to look at each other and Dean spoke before Sam could say anything, "Don't say a word."
