Merlin sat watching Gaius sleep with a puzzled expression set on his face. Gaius was tossing and turning and mumbling incoherently.

GAIUS'S HEAD- 13 years previously

It was a warm sunny day and a younger version of Gaius is using his magic to entertain four children.

"Do the bubble one" requests an 8 year old Morgana

"NO. He's doing the fire one next!" commands 8-year-old Arthur.

"Please stop fighting." Asks Gaius tiredly

"Mr. Gaius" asks a small boy who would grow up to be Lancelot. " It seems that miss. Alixandra has fallen over again." He comments pointing to a 6-year-old not to far away. Arthur runs over to his little sister.

"Allie are you okay?" he asks frowning

"yes." The little girl sniffs

"Allie" he asks again

"I am a Pendragon we do not cry" she tells him.

"Sometimes it is okay to cry." States Morgana wisely.

Alix lifts up her head to look at Morgana "it is?" she asks

Gaius strokes her light brown locks watching the blonde streaks of hair glitter against the brown in the sun.

"Yes" he tells her "it is perfectly fine to cry sometimes"

"Are you okay now?" her brother asks concerned. She looks at him with her bright green eyes.

"Yes. I am." She smiles showing off her pearly white teeth and she loos extra cute because she is missing some of them.

"Jolly good" says a new voice and they all look up, standing against the sun is there uncle Gray. The children gulp and Gaius calls to his master through magic.

"Hello Uncle Gray" smiles Alix before she stoops on his foot. The run toward the castle as fast as their little legs will carry them.

The door bursts open as they reach it and Uther Pendragon, King of Camelot stands there, his aura swirling round him in a torrent of fury.

He counts the children, Arthur, Morgana, Lancelot Alix- where was Alix?

The king looks toward his retreating Brother and can make out his daughters form slung over his shoulder.

"GRAY!!" he roars and chases after him.

Gaius holds Arthur back and grabs Morgana too after her Father runs toward Uther and Gray; Lancelot pulls the doors shut so as to protect his friends.

"UTHER!" shouts Morgana's father as the king is thrown through the air by his brother's magic.

Alix starts conjuring spells too but her knowledge of magic is relatively none existent.

Gray casts a spell at Uther, dragging his magic from him and adding it to the young girl in his arms making her stronger. Uther screams a blood curdling, heart-churning scream of pain as part of him is ripped from his body.

BANG!!!!! Uther ducks as part of the castle explodes, but Morgana's father isn't so lucky and part of the wall lands on him.

"listen to me, Uther Pendragon, Promise me that you will take care of my little girl and make sure she knows that I love her." He says.

"No. No you can't die!" Uther yells at him clutching his friends head in his hands.

"Promise me?"

"I promise." Uther nods and Morgana's father's eyes slowly close.

When Uther looks back up his brother is so far away from him and Uther is so weak from being torn to pieces it is all he can do to stay awake.

"ALIXANDRA!!!!!!" he yells Heart broken that he cannot give chase, cannot move for the pain it causes him.

The doors to the castle open with a bang and Arthur and Morgana run out.

"FATHER!" they both scream and sprint toward the fallen duo.

Arthur falls to his knees by his father.

"ALIX! ALIXANDRA" He yells.

And the royals are yelling and Morgana is cradling her Fathers head and Lancelot sprints into the distance and Gaius watches muttering.

Sometimes it's okay to cry.
