Summary : Joey dumps Pacey. Takes place in the episode where Drew throws Jen a party.
Author's Note : This was originally the length of the story. A lot of people didn't realize that Pacey was dead and asked for him to get back with Andie or get back with Joey, & blah blah blah. So I wrote a couple more chapters. I lost interest in working on it. The fic is so out of date it's not funny. So here it is, back to it's original version.
He knew she was drunk, but it wasn't the liquor talking, it was her heart - her true feelings. He hoisted himself up on the railing of the pier as he remembered her words.
He had been looking all over for her at Jen's "unbirthday party" She was drinking heavily, and Pacey knew all too well she couldn't handle her liquor. She proved that by passing out at Cliff's beach party a few summers back. Pacey was worried.
Andie and Jen came in and he rushed to them, "Have either of you seen Joey?" He asked hopefully.
"Yep," replied Andie in her usual chirpy self, "she's down on the docks. She's pretty spaced out." He gave her a quick 'Thanks' and pushed passed them.
He found Joey standing no the docks looking out over the creek. He thought to himself, then, how beautiful she looked with the wind rustling her hair and moonlight shining down on her.
"There you are," hesaid coming up behind her. "I've been looking all over for you."
She gave him a crooked smile and shrugged, "Well, you found me." She had a sad look in her eyes as she turned back to the water.
"What's wrong, Joey?" he asked her. Something was wrong, he feared the worst.
"Look Pace, I need to tell you something." She spoke slowly, her words slurring, showing she was drunk.
Pacey's heart pounded. Joey took a deep breath and ran her hands through her hair nervously. He wanted to reach out to her, and hold her, and tell her everything would be okay. But, somehow, he knew that's not what she wanted. He swallowed hard and told her to go on.
Anger swept into her eyes then, those same eyes that for the past four months had looked at him with nothing but love. And he knew then that it was over. But he never expected to hear her say what she did next.
"I don't really love you Pacey. An dI'm only with you to make Dawson jealous. I know this probably hurts, but I had to tell you before it got too far out of hand, I'm sorry I used you."
She didn't give him time to respond, she turned on her heels and walked away. He stared after her with tears streaming down his face until he couldn't see her, the only reminder of her being there was the faint scent of her perfume still wafting the air, and the broken pieces of his heart lying on the dock.
He stayed out there long after the party was over and everyone had left. Dawson had finally won, she made her final choice. The sun was coming up over the creek, and he cursed it for being so beautiful while he was in so much pain.
His last thoughts as he plunged into the dark, icy water below, was of her words, and of Joey standing on the pier hours before. Had he known that would be his last image of her, he'd have looked a bit longer.
