A/N: Hi everyone! I've decided to edit and change the chapters from my old story 100 Moments into stand alone short stories. I have about ten. Right now they are all written to be one-short. If you like this, let me know as I have interest in writing more chapters for this story!
It wasn't very often she got close to him. He was a man that enjoyed his privacy. Her mother often tried to tell her strong-willed daughter that Kai Hiwatari was an introverted individual. Trying to get him to engage in social activities like gala events or fancy dinners wasn't going to end well. In Bryan's words, she was smothering him.
Of course, Hilary Tachibana wasn't one to listen to her mother or friends. She'd tried different things to get him to accompany her, from gifts, to begging, to blackmail, and trying to make him feel guilty. "You're my lover! That means doing things I need you to do at times!" Kai hadn't stuck around to hear the rest of her ramblings.
They fought a lot. It wasn't something she enjoyed, but she deemed it as necessary. Someone had to try getting close to him. Kai would spend all his life in isolation if it weren't for her. Hilary couldn't stand to see that happen to the man she loved. Yes, she loved him. He'd told her never to say those words. She guessed on some level he knew how she felt. But to him, she was just a means of physical gratification.
She was a socialite, having used her position with the team to springboard herself into modeling. She'd gotten a few low key acting roles out of it as well. Her latest endeavor was to organize a galleria. Her fame or popularity was nothing like Minging's. Nonetheless, she enjoyed what she did. Kai had taken over his grandfather's company. It had been expected of him. He fulfilled the role of CEO without a word of complaint. Her lover was a billionaire, and one of the most eligible men in the entire world.
It was their relationship that offered her the most popularity. The media wouldn't leave them alone. When she showed up to the benefit concert without her lover on her arm, the paparazzi had a field day. She wasn't looking forward to seeing the headlines tomorrow. The evening was spent dodging reporters and wishing she'd taken up Tyson on his offer to be her escort. At least he would have been man enough to make an appearance. He loved her after all. No, that would have just caused another fight.
She sighed. It was almost three in the morning before her limo finally brought her back to the suite she shared with Kai. As usual, she kicked off her high heels by the door, and found him sound asleep with his face towards the wall. By the looks of it, he had been with Julia Fernandez again. He'd missed a smear of her lipstick on the back of his neck.
He was so handsome. That's what initially attracted her to him. She blinked back a few tears, and brushed a piece of hair from his face. He didn't stir. Kai was a very still sleeper. It was only in his dreams that he seemed peaceful. Without changing, she lay down behind him and buried her face between his shoulder blades.
Even when they made love, he felt so far away.
