How to Throw a Surprise Birthday Party
By: Fang
Firstly, you should have a place to stay(duh).
We were staying at Dr. Martinez's house. Well, we actually live here now. Ever since Max saved the world at age fifteen, we have been.
Figure out who's birthday it is, and who's coming
Since the world's been saved, and Max was turning sixteen, we decided to throw a surprise party for her. Of course, the whole flock and Ella and her mom was coming. It wasn't exactly
the best 'sweet 16', but, hey--it's Max. I don't think she would have wanted one anyway.
Make sure the birthday girl/boy is distracted.
First, we'd gotten Max to go shopping with Nudge. Which could take hours. Which also makes the perfect distraction.
Set up.
Dr. M and Iggy were in charge of baking the cake and food. Angel was security and also in charge of making sure Total stayed locked in the tool shed so he didn't ruin anything. Ella and I
were in charge of decorations. And Gazzy was in charge of the banner and the party poppers. He was happy about that.
"Add some black." I told Ella, handing her a black balloon. This was the first time I'd ever tried to decorate anything.
Ella and I had decided to put up some balloons that'd represent each of us; brown for Max, black for me, orange for Iggy(He chose it), red for Nudge, green for Gazzy, pink for Angel,
yellow for Ella, and blue for Dr. M.
Each of us chose our own colors, in case you're wondering.(You're probably not).
Make sure everything's ready.
After two hours, we were ready. The cake was waiting to be delivered in the kitchen. The food was set up. The balloons were tied underneath the banner, which said Happy Birthday, Max!
Gazzy had set up some small party poppers that'd go off when Max entered the house. It wasn't as strong as Gazzy's regular's explosives, so Max wouldn't get hurt.
Lure in the birthday girl/boy.
My cell phone rang. I motioned for everyone to be quiet. Everything was hushed quickly. The cell phone rang again.
I took the pink device out of my pocket(Ella let me borrow hers, okay?! Don't get any ideas) and flipped it open.
"Nudge?" I asked.
"Fang!" She sounded panicked. "Max got angry and took off to fly home! You guys better be ready."
"We are." I told her. "Fly back."
"Okay!" Nudge hung up.
"Everyone, get ready!" Iggy yelled, who had overheard. Angel ran inside the house.
"She's almost here!" She warned.
Hide and wait.
"I can't wait!" Ella said as we rushed to our hiding spots. Iggy in the kitchen, Gazzy and Angel under the table, Ella behind a plant, Dr. Martinez under the kitchen counter, and me on the
other side of the couch.
Make sure nothing goes wrong, and you're done!
"I can't believe them!" Max fumed. I heard the door open and slam close.
A small explosion sounded, and Max screamed.
Oh, no…
"Surprise!" I heard everyone yell.
I shrugged and jumped out from my hiding spot. Max blinked, and faltered.
That was when Iggy walked out.
The surprise part was his signal. By then, Max should have been inside the living room. But she stood there, frozen.
Iggy walked out of the kitchen, cake in both hands. It was gigantic, a work of art if you ask me.
The next part happened so quickly.
Max had spun around. Iggy had run into her, and Max's face went Splat! against the cake.
Everyone's smile was wiped off of their faces.
Max lifted her head up, and turned around stiffly. Frosting coated her face, but it didn't hide her anger. Through the frosting, we locked eyes. I was right in front of her, looking surprised.
"FANG!" Max shrieked.
Ah, crap.
Why me?
