Chapter 1: ice shackles for the cold hearted princess.

We only own are ocs we don't own any of the young justice characters. I wish.

A white-haired girl hung there. her hair went up to her knees, pale skin and an hourglass figure with a bit of muscles one eye was a deep sapphire the other was emerald green looked around. She sat up and took a look around. She frowned as she realized that she was in total darkness.

No not darkness it was just an illusion he had imprisoned her here with these cuffs 100 years prier. Marissa felt the chains seep into her skin the ice chains and shackles didn't hurt just kept her asleep. She was drifting into the darkness again.

The She heard voices. A young woman with long blonde hair stared at the form before her several chains and shackles made of ice held a long straight white haired girl who looked about 15. She wore a long light blue kimono with dozens of cherry blossoms on them. Her shoes looked something made of wood. A fox like mask hung on the side of her head and a baby in her arms with the same white hair.

"Oh my god," the blonde said in shock. She put her finger to her ear. Canary said her voice echoed through the temple. "You've gotta see this."

There was a flash of light and fourth men stepped out. One was a blonde man dressed in green holding a bow and a quiver of arrows. The second was a man with dark haired, had a mustache, wore a black suit, and held a walking stick in his hand. The third wore a black and gray outfit that made him look almost like a bat. The fourth was another blonde that appeared to be wearing an outfit that looked like he might be part fish.

"Oh my god," said the man in green.

The baby in her arms seemed sound asleep.

"We need to help them," said the woman.

"Get them both down, Zatara. Now," said Batman.

"Right," said Zatara. "Odnu eht sianhc taht dinb meht!"

But an barrier seemed to absorb the magic around it like it wasn't willing to let him through.

"What?!" Green Arrow asked in shock. "Zatara, what happened?!"

"I don't know. This has never happened before. Clearly the magic that binds them is beyond even my own power," Zatara answered.

"There has to be someway to remove those chains," said Black Canary.

"Oh lost souls welcome to my prison where me and my child lay. To free one, one male soul must offer one true heart to remove the barriers chains."

"One true heart? What does that mean?" Green Arrow asked.

"It might be talking metaphorically like saying one thing about yourself that you wouldn't tell anyone else." Zatara said in thought.

"A male soul must offer one true heart," Batman thought out loud.

"Well we can try it." said Green Arrow.

"If it involves declaring your love, remember who you're with, Oliver," Black Canary reminded him, putting her hands on her hips.

"I doubt it wants that." Zatara said.

"Just wanted it on the record," she said with a smile.

Batman thought of something. "Why don't I try?"

"Go for it."

Batman approached the woman and child. He placed his hand on the barrier. "I want to help."

It was strange almost like the woman herd him. "Child of kindness as you see one unbinded one traumatic shot. The one to break the barrier I'm afraid you are not."

"I guess I figured. But it was worth a try," Batman said and then walked away.

"How about I have a go," Green Arrow said as he approached the barrier. He put his hand on it as well. "If there's anyway I can help please tell me."

Nothing happened. That was when Aquaman stepped forward.

He put a hand on the barrier and said, "Let me help the child. The child will be safe and loved in my home. Ow!"

A prick pierced his hand before the barrier shattered. "One who cares one who's kind one who's honest by design. I give you my child and parentage in hand."

The chains that bound the woman broke and set her free. She handed Aquaman her child and mouthed 'thank you' with a smile just before turning to ash. The baby moved a little in his arms.

"It's a girl," Aquaman said.

"She's a cute little girl." Flash said putting a finger out as the little girl napped.

"So that's what it meant," said Batman. "She knew she wouldn't survive. So she made sure her daughter would be cared for by a guardian."

"More than that the shield took sentence coding and put it into the child in a sense she's actually his kid." Zatara said in a surprised tone. "That must've been a very powerful barrier."

"Created by a powerful sorcery no less," said Aquaman. He looked down at the baby and smiled at her. "Not that it matters. I'm going to raise this child. She will be loved in Atlantis."

Black Canary smiled and said, "After today, I'd say this little girl deserves to be treated like a princess."

-Atlantis-

The little girl slept easily in the water almost like she was meant to be in it. Aquaman's wife, Mera, looked down at the child and smiled along with her husband.

"She is beautiful, my love," Mera told her husband. "You did a great thing adopting her."

"She still needs a name," said Aquaman aka King Orin.

"How about Marissa?" Mera suggested. "It is Latin for sea. A lovely name for an Atlantean princess."

Orin smiled at the young girl. Her little hands clutched his finger in her sleep. "It's perfect."

"Are you really keeping the child, brother?" asked Orin's younger brother Orm, who was leaning against the doorway.

He looked at his brother. "Yes. Why is there a problem with that?"

"Not at all," said Orm. "It's just that some might question an heir to the throne that is not of royal blood."

"On the contrary, Orin has explained to me that the sorcery that kept her and her birth mother frozen assimilated her DNA to match his," Mera explained. "She is just as much a part of the royal bloodline as you are."

Orm looked at the sleeping girl and said, "Then the people will want to meet their future queen soon."

The little girl sucked her thumb as she slept.

"We'll have the presentation ceremony this weekend," Orin said with a smile.

-presentation ceremony-

The citizens of Atlantis all gathered outside the royal palace for an announcement from their king and queen. They had heard that there was finally an heir to the throne. This was very exciting. After much waiting, their king and queen came out with a baby in the arms of the queen.

"My people! My queen and myself now have an heir to the throne! We have been blessed with a daughter!" King Orin announced. Mera handed him the child and he showed her to the people. "I present to you, your future queen! Princess Marissa!"

The citizens cheered as they beheld the baby girl. The baby giggled as she looked over the crowd. This was a grand day for all of Atlantis. And none were more happy than the royal family.

-6 years later-

The young princess was hiding from the guards once again to check out the outside of the castle. She spotted a few kids her age so she hid behind a pillar.

"Race you guys!" A boy shouted as he swam ahead.

"No fair, Garth! You got a head start!" Another boy said while laughing.

"Garth! Kaldur! Wait for me!" a girl called as she swam to catch up.

They looked like they were having lots of fun. Don't get her wrong she enjoyed her family but she liked to get out of the royal guards sights once in awhile. As they were messing around, the boy called Kaldur threw sand at the boy called Garth as a prank. Kaldur laughed and quickly hid behind a pillar. The very same one Marissa was hiding behind.

"Oh. Hi. This your hiding place?" Kaldur asked her.

"Yeah kinda." She nervously said blushing slightly.

"I haven't seen you around before. Are you from another city?" Kaldur asked.

"Uh sorta." she twiddled her fingers a bit.

"Oh. I get it. You're new and shy," said Kaldur in realization. "Wanna play with me and my friends?"

"Sure." She smiled happily.

"Great! Come on!" Kaldur excitedly said as he led the girl back to his friends. "I'm Kaldur. It's short for Kaldur'ahm. What's your name?"

She needed a good nickname so he wouldn't know. "Mari."

"Nice to meet you, Mari," said Kaldur. "Garth, Tula, meet Mari. Mari, these are my friends, Garth and Tula."

"Nice to meet you." She said shyly hiding behind Kaldur a bit.

"She's new to these parts and shy," Kaldur told his friends.

Tula swam up to the girl and kindly said, "Don't be shy. We'll be your friends."

Her white hair floated a bit as she nervously peeked over Kaldur's shoulder. Strangely she had adapted quickly to her new home not that she knew she wasn't there actual kid. Her long white straight hair that went up to her knees didn't really clue her in nor did her pale skin one blue eye and one green one.

"Hey, guys, let's show Mari how we have fun around here!" Kaldur suggested.

"Yeah!" Garth agreed. "And I know just the thing! Come on!"

The children all swam away to do something fun. Soon after they left, a team of guards came along in search of the missing princess. This was starting to get really old.

-sunken ship-

Garth led his friends to an old sunken pirate ship.

"My dad says it belonged to pirates who died a long time ago," said Garth.

"What's a pirate." Marissa asked still hiding.

"Pirates are people who roamed the waters above us and stole valuables from people," Tula said.

"This ship sank down here over a hundred years ago," Kaldur added. "According to my parents."

"And I brought us here to explore it," said Garth.

"That's kinda scary." Marissa nervously said biting her bottom lip.

"Relax," Garth casually said as he started going towards the ship. "There's no pirates there now. They're dead."

Kaldur took Marissa's hand and kindly said, "I'm right here for you."

"Ok." She said as they swam inside her heart thumped nervously. It was dark and scary. The rotting wood made her a bit nervous.

"Just look at the craftsmanship on the ship," Tula said in admiration, look at the work down on the ship.

She was so gonna be in trouble when her guards found her but it was slightly worth it.

"I wonder if there's hidden treasure on this ship," Kaldur said out loud.

"Only one way to know. Let's check out the lower deck," Garth said to his friends. That's when they heard a noise.

"Princess!" a male voice called. The kids turned around and saw a group of guards. "Princess Marissa! Thank the gods we found you."

Marissa bit her lip as she hid behind Kaldur a bit.

"Princess?" Her new friends asked in surprise.

"Princess Marissa please stop this game. We need to get you back home." the guards said swimming over to her.

"But were gonna go exploring," Tula whined.

"Princess Marissa needs to get home. She's not safe out here." The guard said taking the little girl's hand as they swam away Marissa looked back sadly.

Kaldur swam after them and said, "Mari is our friend. Can't she stay with us a little bit longer?"

The guard sighed and said, "Look, I'm sorry, young man. But her parents are worried sick about her. She needs to come with us."

"Sorry. I ruined your fun." Marissa said in apologetic tone.

"You didn't," said Kaldur, giving her a reassuring smile.

"We were glad we met you," Garth said, trying to smile but was clearly sad.

"Maybe we could play again sometime?" Tula said, on the verge of tears.

"I'm sure we can arrange something." The guard said as they swam off.

-back in the castle-

She was brought to the throne room. The guards making sure she wasn't getting away like last time.

"Your Majesties, your daughter was found exploring an old sunken ship with three other children," the guard explained.

"Thank you. My wife and I will take it from here," said King Orin.

"Of course, my king," said the guard, and then he and the others left.

She looked down at the floor twiddling her thumbs. Her parents gave her stern looks. Finally, Queen Mera let out a sigh and got down to her daughter's level.

"Marissa, why did you run off like that? Do you have any idea how worried we were?" Mera asked her daughter.

"I just wanted to have fun without the guards following me. Everyone stares and they don't really treat me like a kid." She said sadly looking down at the floor.

Mera and Orin exchanged looks of concern. And then Orin knelt down to his daughters level and said, "We're only trying to protect you, honey. We didn't mean to make you feel bad. For that, I'm sorry."

"I'm sorry… I didn't mean to scare you. I take responsibility for my actions." She said her eyes teared up like she was about to cry.

"Those three children were your friends, weren't they?" Mera asked. Marissa nodded. Mera gave her a warm smile and said, "Tell you what, don't scare us like that again, and you can play with your friends. But you must have an adult with you if you go exploring."

"Ok, mommy. I'm sorry for scaring you." She hugged her.

Mera hugged her back and said, "It's alright now."

"You're still grounded though." Orin added.

"Thats fair." Marissa said she kinda saw it coming she accepted that. And if she behaved she'd get to play wyou her new friends sooner.

"As long as you understand," said Orin. "Now go to your room."

She nodded swimming off to her room. Once she was gone Orin looked to his wife. "She is currently a handful. I just hope she doesn't feel like that when she gets older. I'd hate it if she became miserable."

"We can probably avoid that by letting her socialize and not constantly surround her with guards," Mera suggested. "In other words, just let her be a kid."

"I know, I know. I just worry there is a lot of things that could happen….am I'm being over protective." Orin asked her Mera took his hand and smiled.

"Maybe a little," Mera told him. "But what father isn't. And you're both a father and a king."

He smiled. "You're right my love as always. I guess I worry for more of her wanting to be a hero or ending up being attacked."

"Well how about you take her to land, have her train with me, Zatara, and Batman? That way she gets some skills to help her and if she does wish to help with heroics you can keep an eye on her like a protage." Mera said a huge smile forming on her lips. Kissing her husband as she held her arms around him then releasing the lips from her embrace. "And I think having fewer guards will help her a lot more."

Orin smiled at his wife and said, "You're right, my love. I'll tell her later."

-Marissa's room-

Marissa laid in a silver pod like bed taking a nap. As she slept the guards at her door stood watch. What they did not know was that someone was watching and scheming a way to break in. That someone was Ocean Master.

Ocean Master held his trident in hand and prepared to strike the child down.

"You know, normally I wouldn't care if you planned to kill someone." A male voice said in a cold tone.

Ocean Master turned around and found a boy with spiky hair and a cat in his shoulder. It was Klarion.

"So why do you care about this one?" Ocean Master coldly asked.

"You could say I have a sorta invested relationship with her mother which is why I'm afraid this is gonna hurt." He chanted a spell one that seemed to send Ocean Master into a swirling hole. "Well he'll be gone for awhile and my niece is safe for now."

The cat mewed. "Look if it was anyone else I would've loved the chaos but I didn't seal my sister away to harm her it was to save her child's life she needed a doner and even I have a heart for family. But if it was anyone else I'd gladly strike them down and watch the craziness unfold."

On that note, Klarion jumped through a portal to leave Atlantis, leaving the royal family none the wiser.

King Orin entered his daughters room in time for her to wake up.

"Hi, daddy." She rubbed her eyes sleepily.

"Hi, honey," said King Orin as he sat down. "Listen, your mother and I were talking. And I think we both have an idea. How do you feel about learning how to fight?"

She looked like she thought about it for a moment. "I think that I'd like to."

King Orin pat her head and said, "Then we'll start your training as soon as possible. You'll be learning sorcery from your mother, and I'm thinking about asking Batman to train you in hand to hand combat."

"Does this mean I'll have to leave?" Marissa asked in concern.

"Only a few times a week. And just for a few hours," Orin said. "I'll pick you up using the zatatube at the end of the lessons."

"Ok as long as I can come back. I'd miss you and mommy to mix if I had to leave for to long." She said in a cute voice. Orin's heart just melted at the sight.

"You are just so cute," he said while giving her a hug.

-2 years later-

Marissa was studying a bit when someone appeared in her room.

"Not too busy to hang out, are you?" A male voice asked.

She turned around she didn't recognize the male turning around she noticed the creature on his shoulder an animal that normally couldn't breathe underwater. "Uh who are you?"

"Moi? My name's Klarion. And this is Teekal," Klarion answered with a smile. "And I'm your new imaginary friend."

This confused her a bit but then again lots of things confused her. "Really? Cool you wanna play?"

"You bet," Klarion said happily.

"Ok let's play tag! You're it!" She said tagging him and running off.

"I'm gonna get you!" Klarion said and then chased her.

She enjoyed the game in the room it was fun to play with Klarion. Suddenly, Klarion spotted the doorknob turning and disappeared.

The door opened and Mera came in. "Have you finished your studies, Marissa?"

"Yes, mommy. I was just playing with my imaginary friend."

"You were?" Mera asked with a smile. "Well then, I'll leave you to your fun."

"Ok mommy." She said happily.

"I'll come get you for dinner," Mera kindly said before leaving her daughter alone.

As soon as Mera left, Klarion reappeared and smiled. "Your mom seems nice."

"She is. She's really nice. She and some of the league are teaching me how to fight and do magic."

"Magic, huh?" Klarion asked with interest. "How about I teach you some of my tricks?"

"Really? Okay I'd love too!" she happily said as she went over to him.

Klarion smiled and waved his hand to make a small portal. He reached inside and pulled out a necklace.

"That's so cool." She said clapping her hands happily.

"Yeah. It's one of my many talents," Klarion said casually. "I opened a portal to another location and pulled it out. All I had to do was think of a location or a thing, visualize a way to get it, and then I reached in and got it. How about you try it?"

"Ok." She did what her imaginary friend told her visualizing a item she always wanted to see.

"See the item?" Klarion asked.

"Yeah." She smiled pulling it through and a small bear came through.

"Good choice," said Klarion. "Keep practicing and you'll be able to use portals to go anywhere you want."

"Really cool!" she cheered happily.

"I gotta go do some business but i'll be back I promise." Klaron told her with a gentle smile.
