The Sequel
A scream pierced through the air, breaking through the calm that had settled over the teahouse. Zuko and Sokka both jumped up, one falling into a bending stance, the other looking around wildly. Aang's eyes were widened with surprise while Suki instinctively reached for her fans. The only one who didn't seem to be troubled was Toph, who hadn't even bothered to so much as move from her spot at the table. But that was only to the untrained her; her feet were as alert as ever.
Before anyone had a chance to see what the commotion was about, Katara ran into the room, tears streaking down her face and a hopeless look in her eyes. "Katara!" Aang cried, "What's wrong? What happened?"
"It's terrible!" she sobbed. "I-I can't...why..?" She was practically delirious, shivering uncontrollably and shaking her head back and forth.
"Katara, are you alright?" Sokka asked, instantly worried. He and Aang helped her sit down while Zuko went to get her a cup of tea. But she only continued to shake, eyes glazed over and filled with horror. "What's going on?" Sokka asked. "Why won't she respond?"
"Something must've spooked her," Toph mused, leaning forward on the table. "Something spooked her bad."
"I dunno," Suki mused. "This seems worse than that. She looks...broken." Carefully, she tilted Katara's face upward to look into her soulless eyes. "I can't even imagine what could've done this."
"I can." Everyone turned to see Zuko reenter the room, Katara's tea in one hand a rolled up poster in the other. "I found this in the back," he said, holding up the poster and setting the tea down in front of her. "It's pretty terrifying." With a heavy sigh, he opened it up, allowing the others to get a look.
Silence. Absolute silence. Until, finally, Sokka whimpered. Aang hid his face in his hands while Suki whispered, "Oh no."
"What?" Toph demanded, glaring at them for leaving her out. "What is it? What's going on?"
It was Zuko who spoke, though it took all his effort not to fall into a crying mess just like Katara. "It's a movie poster," he answered, voice thick with grief and pain. "A movie poster for The Last Airbender." He closed his eyes. "Two."
Toph froze. "Two?" she whispered. "Two, as in a sequel? As in, a sequel to that awful piece of shit that the Dark Lord Shyamalan came out with in 2010?"
Zuko nodded. "Yes." His voice was empty.
Toph gave a nervous chuckle. "Y-you're joking with me, right? This is all a joke? That can't...PLEASE TELL ME YOU'RE JOKING!"
"I wish I could."
Toph collapsed then, wrapping her arms around her knees. She began to rock herself as she muttered, "No, no, no, it can't be. It can't! I dodged the last one, he can't make a sequel. I can't be dragged into this!"
"There is no good left in the world," Katara murmured, momentarily rising from her stupor. She looked directly at Aang, who looked up with tears in his eyes. "We failed. We failed to bring balance to the world."
"I can't go through that again," Aang whispered. "I just can't!" He dropped his head into his hands and sobbed.
"What do we do?" Suki asked, looking around helplessly.
Zuko shook his head sadly. "There's nothing we can do. We just wait. Wait, and hope that we survive." He closed his eyes and sighed. "Spirits help us all."
So, is this a real thing? Yes, I'm afraid so. When I heard the news, I immediately went and researched everywhere just to be sure. Everything I've found has confirmed that Shyamalan plans on making a sequel to The Last Airbender. Be strong, dear friends. War is coming.
