As the basketball arced through the air Mai's breath caught in her throat. After what seemed like an eternity the ball that had previously left her very hands passed through the hoop without any hesitation. As she jumped up and down rushing to her gym class teammates she failed to notice the black-clad figure watching her through the open doors.
As she exited gym talking to her friends she passed right by the handsome man waiting specifically for her, as if his existence was no more meaningful than the grass he crushed underfoot. She wasn't the most observant girl when she was in school especially. She also failed to notice a group of three boys from the boys gym class standing a few paces ahead with a bucket.
Naru of course realized what was going to happen before the bucket even started to tilt. He also noticed the girls gym uniform consisted of a white shirt. But it was too late by the time he was ready to move Mai had already been thoroughly soaked. But she had yet to realize the implications of this and was instead staring heatedly at the boys with the bucket.
"It was an accident I swear," said one if the boys in a rehearsed manner.
Mai looked about ready to hit him when the boy next to him, who was not even feigning an remorse, giggled, "it's pink." He was looking at her chest not her cheeks, which were now a shade if unnatural crimson.
Mai immediately crossed her arms over her chest and crouched down hugging her knees. Before she had time to formulate a plan or even clam down a black jacket was draped over her shivering shoulders. A man stood in front of her blocking the boys view of the uncomfortable girl.
Everything about this man seemed serious. Even though he appeared no more than a year or two older then them he was undoubtably a man. He was tall and strikingly handsome but that's not what wiped the smirk off their faces, no it was his piercing eyes that seemed to cut.
By now a small crowd had gathered to see the newcomer and the boys had to save face, even if the man looked like the human embodiment of vengeance.
"Visitors aren't aloud on school grounds without permission and you don't go here."
The man said nothing.
"You should leave before we get a teacher."
He stood his ground.
"If you want to fight-" one of the boys started, but the bucket in his hands fell to the ground as if it suddenly weighed to much to hold.
Naru took a step foward and the boys took an involuntary step back. He took another step and another and another until the boys had cornered themselves. Naru took one more step so he was almost close enough to hear their hearts beating as faster than they ever had before. He whispered into their ears for a few seconds and walked away as the boys slid down the wall until they were sitting in the ground, one boy even had his head in his hands.
Mai had begun to rise uncertain if what had happened after they backed away. Naru grabbed Mai by the hand and dragged her to the front if the building where Lin was waiting in the van. " I already got permission from the principal and your suitcase is in the back. The rest of the team will meet us on sight."
He got in the front and waited for Mai to open the back door and get in but she paused for a moment mulling over what had just happened as she clutched the jacket over herself breathing in its vague scent. Earl grey.
