A young girl looked out her bedroom window. Everything looked so peaceful, but she knew that somewhere lurked a monster. A monster that had plagued the land for over a year now, a monster that brought death and destruction. It was the summoners' job to get rid of Sin. Unfortunately none had been successful so far.
She saw a large grey figure in the distance, a small tear rolled down her pale cheek. It was going to attack again.
"You have Sin here too?" A voice from behind her asked.
The girl wiped the tear from her face and sighed. "Sin is everywhere, as long as people do wrong, Sin will exist." Her words were bitter and sarcastic. "That's what the temples tell us anyways. We will never be fully rid of Sin, yet summoners must continue to sacrifice their life for the bit of peace we receive." She turned to the person behind her. He was a bit older than her, maybe by a couple of years. He had short blond hair and blue eyes. She was about to ask him who he was but…
"Princess!" A female's voice shouted.
The girl opened her eyes; she was laying in her bed. Outside her room she could hear people screaming, she couldn't make out what they were saying, but one word rang clearly. Sin.
"Come quick Princess. We've already lost your mother and father to Sin, we can't loose you too." The servant ran around the princess' room gathering her belongings. When she lifted a blanket up she was surprised to see a staff. "Princess Emma, what is this?"
The princess quickly grabbed the staff from her servants hand, "it's nothing. Now tell me what's going on?"
The servant began to head to the door, "we must go quickly, I'll tell you as we go."
Emma nodded a followed the servant.
Throughout the castle there was chaos. People were panicking, "Sin is coming! Sin is coming!" Screams of terror echoed through the halls.
Outside Emma saw the destruction not to far away from the castle. Homes were burning; a thick grey smoke covered the sky. The moon was no longer visible and the light it gave was gone. 'What's going on?' Emma thought to herself. Sin had attacked many times before, but never this close to the castle. Suddenly she realized she was no longer in the castle. She froze. As she stared at the monster she tightened her grip on her staff. Sin was coming closer and closer to the castle. Her servant was calling to Emma, but she couldn't hear her. She continued to watch the monster.
"He's coming for you." The boy from her dream appeared beside her. "He knows that you are becoming a summoner so you can defeat him."
"Sin killed my parents and my people," Emma whispered angrily, "He must be stopped!" A flash of light blinded Emma.
When she opened her eyes she didn't know where she was. A warm sun shown down on her. She looked around trying to figure out where she was. She stood on a sandy white beach, crystal blue water in front of her and a forest of green behind her.
She walked to the water and looked at her reflection. Her long blond hair was no longer neatly braided and her blue eyes seemed tired. The clothes she had thrown on before she left, was not her usual attire. You seldom see a princess wearing blue flare jeans and a tight fitting black tank top that showed her midriff. She was glad that she didn't look a princess, if know one could recognise her it would be easier for her to continue her work to become a summoner. She put her hair in a pony tail and began to follow a path hoping it would lead her to a village or something.
"You're not home anymore."
The boy from Emma's dream appeared again in front of her. "If I'm not home, then where am I?"
"This is Spira, Sin existed here too," he said, "this is the island of Besiad." He paused, "The summoner who defeated Sin lives here." The expression on his face turned sad, then he disappeared again.
