Honestly, Jonah Wizard really liked his new high school.

Ever since his mother disowned him and refused to speak to him, his father took full responsibility of his career and since Cora was in charge of his Janus schooling, there was no one to tutor Jonah.

He wasn't sure if he even wanted to be learning English and Geometry by the hand of a Janus. Most Janus members wanted their hands around his throat at the moment.

It was a pretty low key high school in Oceanside, California. Oceanside was one of Jonah's favorite places to be.

Thursday proved to be a seriously boring day of school. No pep rallies, no fights, and no pizza for lunch. Seriously, who wants to eat sloppy joe's? It was totally cliche of them to even put it on the menu.

Around sixth period, Jonah could not take it anymore. For forty five minutes, his social studies teacher had droned on about the French Revolution. This is America. Why are we learning about France? A long lecture about their amazing pastries could be in order, but this? No.

So, he raised his hand, asked to use the restroom, and left in a hurry.

Hall security proved to be nearly nonexistant at Oceanside High. Jonah freely wandered around for about 20 minutes, exploring the school. A few students, also looking to get out of class, wandered about and said a few words of greeting to their fellow student.

He was just walking back to class before the bell when he heard something rather odd to hear at a High School.

It was music.

To be specific, it was the title song from the movie "Somewhere in Time." It was a rather sad, old-fashioned movie, and the song was beautiful, and beautifully played. Jonah stood by the door to the music room for a few moment, in order not to miss the perfectly hit notes. Then, in a fit of curiosity, he opened the door and walked inside.

There was a girl sitting at the beat up piano, her pale fingers flying across the keys. She sat completely upright and stared at the keys with a look of...longing? Sadness?

Playing like an expert and looking upset were not two things that went hand in hand.

Neither was being gorgeous and being sad.

And she was gorgeous, with long dark hair and nearly translucent blue eyes set in a petite face.

After a few moments, Jonah decided to speak.

"Hey! Nice song!" he called out over the notes using his stage voice.

The girl did not answer, she didn't even turn around.

"Hey!" he tried again. No such luck.

Jonah started walking towards her when the music door opened. He slid towards a desk and pretended to look through a stack of papers.

A kind-looking, heavyset woman walked over to the girl and tapped on her shoulder. She stopped playing and looked up at her sadly. The woman lifted her hand and began...sign language?

"E-M-M-A? T-I-M-E . T-O. G-O!" she signed.

The girl, Emma, nodded, picked up a few books sitting on the piano and turned around. Her gaze fell on Jonah for a moment in confusion, but the woman took her arm and led her carefully out.

Jonah stood for a few minutes in confusion. She was deaf? How could someone that played so beautifully not be able to even hear what she was playing? There was something so devastatingly tragic about that girl that Jonah wanted to learn more. He had to learn her story. Her lovely sad face was imprinted on his brain.

The bell rang, and snapped him out of his reverie.

He trotted away, turning off the lights and turning back to glance at the piano, suddenly so lonely.
