Sheena stared intensely at her target, envisioning every possible outcome of her next strike. Pausing briefly, the raven-haired ninja reached out her hand and grabbed her weapon of choice.

"Knight to F6. Check."

"Give me a break, Sheena," Zelos complained. "You've been playing this game for 13 years straight, and I haven't seen a chess board since my schooling." The redhead moved his king to his left.

Sheena sighed, and picked up her rook. "Rook to H3. You know very well that if you wanted to beat me, you'd need to practice first."

"Against who? Lloyd?" Zelos continued. "We're both aware that playing him would just be a waste of my time." He pushed the pawn in front of his king forwards to defend against the rook.

The game continued relatively slowly. The whole party was relaxing with various games, but Sheena and Zelos took the longest of the group. Slowly, everyone congregated around the board. Regal took the job of recording the moves away from the players, and everyone else commented on the game amongst themselves. Zelos had made a surprise counterattack and the position ended up about even.

"See Sheena, I'm getting my chess skills back." Zelos launched a pawn forward, blazing a trail towards Sheena's king.

"We'll see how well you do. Knight to D4." Sheena rekindled her own offensive.

"I'll get my revenge for our first game." Zelos grabbed his bishop and-

"Hey, guys, why do bishops move diagonally?" was interrupted by an inquisitive Lloyd.

"I.. don't know, Lloyd. Why not ask Raine?" Zelos responded as he continued his move.

"I will, after I watch Sheena beat you in this game."

"Sheena is not going to beat me in this-"

"Check, Zelos. And mate in 2." Zelos was interrupted yet again, this time by his opponent. He stared at the board for a few minutes, analyzing every possible move he could play, and realized it was hopeless.

"Agh.. you can't go easy on me, can you?" Zelos chuckled to himself while he tipped his king over. He stood up and began to leave, when he felt a tap on his shoulder. He turned around to see Sheena holding out her hand.

"Good game, Zelos. It was an honor to play with you," Sheena stated.

Zelos grabbed the outstretched hand. "Likewise, my hunny."

Sheena smirked. She knew both of them learned something about each other during that match, and she felt she would be up for a rematch at any time.
