Am I first? I really loved last night's episode! It felt so much like the old Bones episodes, don't you think?
Anyway, in this busy time I found some time to write a short twist on the librarian scene. This is what I would've liked better:)
Disclaimer; I don't know why I still write these. Bones belongs to FOX.
Penalty
Booth smiled his signature smile when he saw his partner look at him, glasses perched firmly on her nose and her auburn hair in a bun. The first image that flashed through his mind was that of a librarian and for a moment the smell of the deceased body right under her nose disappeared. He stepped closer, placing one hand on the makeshift autopsy table and before he knew it the words he didn't really mean to say stumbled out of his mouth.
"Alright, what I want you to do is take off your glasses, shake out your hair and say; Mr Booth, do you know what the penalty is for an overdue book?" She was standing only inches away from him and her eyes widened slightly in surprise at his proposition.
Then, a slow smile made it's presence known on her delicate features and she snapped off her gloves, lifted her hand and took off the grandma glasses. Booth raised an eyebrow wondering whether or not she was actually listening to him or that she was about to give him a lecture on professionalism while working a case.
"Bones?"
"Mr. Booth --" She started and she pulled her black hairband out of her hair, shaking it loose so that it fell in curls over her shoulders, framing her face almost to a point of perfection. In the meantime Booth could feel his heart skip more beats than he thought was healthy and his knuckles turned white as he gripped the autopsy table tighter. His partner was facing him now and she took a step closer.
"Do you know what the penalty is for an overdue book?"
"I – What? - I – No. I don't." He blinked, desperately needed someone to pinch him. Was he dreaming this?
"Well then maybe I should show you." Her hand tugged on his 'cocky' beltbuckle and a low noise escaped his throat as he had to step closer to her and her soft lips collided with his.
"Booth.''
He closed his eyes and shivered slightly when he felt her tongue run lightly along his bottom lip.
"Booth!"
Finally his eyes snapped open and he looked at his partner in front of him, blinking several times before he realised that she was staring with her blue eyes. The glasses were still in place and her hair was still gathered in a bun.
"What?" He stared at her in a daze and then realised he'd been daydreaming. She hadn't understood what he was saying.
"Nevermind." His partner shook her head and pursed her lips before turning back to the remains in front of her. She carefully picked up the skull and pointed at a specific mark on the occiptal bone, holding it in such a way that Booth could see what she wanted to show him.
"This notch mark, here on the occipital is what knocked her unconsious. The hairline fractures weakened the integrity of the cranium and caused it to – burst when heated."
It took him a couple of seconds before he could process what she was saying. Not just because it was squint talk, he knew what the occiptal bone was by now, but because of the dream like state he had trouble shaking off. Deciding to try and focus on helping her, he answered tentatively; not sure he'd heard her right.
"So she was hit, with what?"
As he listened to her theories on needing to get an impression in order to identify the weapon that had knocked the victim unconsious he could only hope that one day she was ready for him to cross the line. And that she would understand that what he wanted was more than just a friendship or working-relationship.
Fin.
I know short and maybe not my best.
Review though? :D Pretty please. I'd say press the pretty purple button but it's changed. So I guess it's white now. Or something.
