A/N: This is my secret Santa gift for FantasyPrincess94. A very belated Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to her! ;) I'm sorry it's rather short, it was originally much, much longer and had like three extra scenes, but I was so displeased with the way it was coming out, that I ended up just taking the part I actually liked and flushing it out as best as I could. Anyway, I chose to write Harry/Ginny and I used the prompts she supplied: lilies, lace and water.
Sweet Winter Nights
Harry Potter and Ginny Weasley stood outside in The Burrow's back garden. Snow was falling softly on the grass and a cool breeze brushed against their skin. Ginny wrapped her blanket more tightly around her body and sighed contently, resting her head on Harry's broad shoulder.
"You picked a good time," She murmured, breaking the comfortable silence and smiling down at the emerald engagement ring on her finger.
"Hmm?" Harry asked, looking away from the star-filled night sky and at his fiancée.
Ginny smiled at him, "Christmas Eve was a good time to propose- very memorable. Also, hiding the box in a bouquet of lilies was rather creative." She laughed as she played back what had happened in her mind. She had been placing the bouquet Harry had given her in a vase when a small, lace-adorned box had tumbled out onto the floor. Good thing she hadn't poured any water in the vase yet- what a disaster that would have been!
Harry smiled back at her, "Yeah, well I can't take full credit. It was Hermione's idea. All of my ideas were lame."
"Well, as long as one of your ideas wasn't asking me to marry you on the Knight Bus I would have said yes no matter what." Ginny smirked.
Harry chuckled, remembering how Ron had proposed to Hermione in that exact way. They would never let him live that down.
"Good thing you finally got your act together," Ginny told him, "I mean, Ron and Hermione have been married for nearly four months now and I was starting to think you'd never ask me!"
Harry was about to apologize and confess that he'd been too nervous to ask her earlier, but then he saw the playful glint in Ginny's eyes and laughed instead, dropping a kiss in her fiery hair.
"It will be nice to spend the rest of my life with you." He murmured, smiling against her hair.
"Ditto." Ginny grinned, pulling him towards hers for a kiss.
If the rest of Harry's life was going to be spent like this, with sweet winter nights full of soft kisses and Ginny by his side, he was definitely looking forward to the many years to come.
