Well, I hope you like this one! I came up with this story on the spot, when I was walking home from school one day and it started snowing, and the snow started to stick to my hair, but it wouldn't melt off. Anyway, I obviously don't own anything.
Come'on, come'on, come'on! They could be here at any second! Hurry up! I scolded, as I finished packing. There was a knock at the door, and I hissed. Damnit!
Of all days, of course they'd show up. Okay, well, I suppose I should probably explain. Every year, I always leave Ooo to go visit my twin brother, for our birthday. We've had so many, and we never used to do anything during our birthday, so recently I started going to his house so we could celebrate together. I would usually stay for about a week, but Finn, being Finn, never knew why I'd leave every year, so around this time of year he'd always start pestering me. So, I guess I should've expected that they'd show up today, but I had hoped that I would already be long gone before they did. If Finn saw me leave, he'd no doubt follow me.
I got an idea.
I already knew that if I didn't answer, Finn and Jake would just come in and look around for me. But, if I hid on the back deck, he wouldn't be able to find any traces of me, so then they'd have to leave, thinking that I had already left. I smirked triumphantly, quickly scribbling out a note and leaving it on the table, before I quickly grabbed my bass, my bag, and Schwabi. I floated out onto my deck and hovered above the door, listening, before I remembered something – something that would come back to bite me.
I left my note right next to the note Marshall had written.
I listened in to the conversation that Finn and Jake were having, and I realized that they must've been standing right next to my back door, and that meant that they would be able to hear me too. At the sound of Finn's voice, Schwabi whimpered and scrambled around in my arms, trying to get down.
"Shh! Schwabi, be quiet!" I swore, in less than a whisper.
Of course, Finn heard me. 'Just my luck, huh? He quickly opened the back door, and I floated down to them with a dramatic sigh. "Hey Finnegan." I shrugged.
"Hey Marcy," he said, and almost immediately he went into the questions. "Where are you going? Why are you leaving? Who's Marshall Lee?"
I smirked. "You weenies really think that I'm going to tell you why I'm going to my brother's house?" I asked, sarcastically.
"Maybe…" Finn said, before he and Jake leaned up against each other and pouting their lips out, and giving me their puppy dog eyes. I rolled my eyes. It was no use.
"I leave every year to go to my brother's house, for our birthdays…" I mumbled, blowing my hair from my face.
I waited for a response, but nothing came. I looked back, and saw that Finn's eyes were huge. I realized that he was waiting for me to leave, so then he could say something to Jake. I rolled my eyes and chuckled. "'Later weenies." I laughed, and floated away.
As I was flying away, I heard Finn exclaim: "It's birthday party planning time!"
Crap.
. . .
It usually could take me about a day to get to Aaa, and I usually would've used a Door Spell so it wouldn't have to take as long, but I decided that this year I wanted to enjoy the view along the way. Eventually, I came across Marshall's cave, and the moment that I was above his doorstep, the door flew open. "Hey there baby-sis!" he laughed.
I almost had to laugh when I saw what he was wearing – a grey plaid shirt, with the sleeves rolled up, with a black t-shirt and black skinny jeans, and a baseball hat that he was wearing backwards. I was wearing almost the exact same thing. He had an excited grin plastered on his face.
"Oh hush, you're older by three minutes." I laughed, and we hugged. His grin stayed. "And what the hell are you so smiley with? Why do I feel like I'm not going to like it?"
He chuckled. "Well, Bonnibel just called. She said that Finn had told her that it was our birthday, so she decided that she's throwing a party. It's in two days' time." he said. "I don't know how you guys do it in Ooo, but here in Aaa, we throw parties on our actual birthdays."
I chuckled, and we went inside. "That's Gum-Brains from you." I said, and he laughed. "Where's Schwabble? Schwabi is dying to see him."
He chuckled and cocked his head in the direction of the back door. I set Schwabi down, and she immediately ran out to the back. I chuckled.
. . .
The next day flew by so quickly. Marshall and I went around Aaa, and he showed me some of the best places that he had found to play music, and we jammed for the first time in forever. It was wicked to be back with my brother again. I wish that I had time to visit him more often.
And then, it was time to head out for Bubblegum's stupid party.
Marshall and I had contemplated if we actually wanted to go, before we decided that if we didn't, Bubblegum was probably going to have a cow and Finn would track us down and make us go. So, we grabbed our umbrellas, and headed out. Like me, Marshall could have used a Door Spell, but we decided to take our time.
Along on the way, I explained how these parties usually went. "From the ones that I've actually gone to, I know that once everyone arrives, she usually gives this big long speech that welcomes everyone and honors whoever the hell the part is for. After that, she usually puts on a painfully boring, slow song, which turns into a marathon of them, and they usually drown into sounding like the same song by the end of the night. Finnegan usually tries to dance with Bubble Butt, but when he realizes that she won't give him the time of day he comes over and sulks around me for a while." I explained, and he chuckled.
"'Sounds a bit like Fi." he said, and I laughed.
"Do you wanna bring her along too? I bet they'd be excited to meet another human." I asked, and he nodded excitedly, which I just laughed. He pouted. I knew he had had a crush on Fionna for an incredibly long time, and he was too 'cool' to admit it, so I teased him constantly with every chance that I got.
On our way to Ooo, we stopped by her house, and Marshall knocked. She came out, and looked surprised to see us, to which I just chuckled to myself. Well, looks like it's not unrequited. "Hey Fi, I was wondering if you wanted to come to Ooo which my sister and me for this big party? We have a surprise waiting for you when we get there, if you wanna come." he said, and she almost immediately agreed.
I knew well enough that Marshall would turn into a tomato if he had to carry Fionna the entire way to Ooo, so we both held her up by her hands and flew her there. It didn't stop be from teasing him, though. Along the way, it was incredible though, because she must've asked a million questions! "What's Ooo like? Is it anything like here? And how come you've never told me that you had a sister? What's the big surprise that you have waiting for me? Who is Bonnibelle? Is she anything like Prince Gumball?" she asked, in what only could've been one breath.
I chuckled, thinking for a moment. "Ooo is nice, and it's essentially just another Aaa. You'll have to ask him about the other part, and if we told you what the surprise was, it wouldn't be a surprise anymore now would it? And Bonnibelle, or Princess Bubblegum, is your Prince Gumball's cousin. Most people between Ooo and Aaa are related, somehow." I said, and she nodded, and as she was about to start with even more questions, I noticed that we were coming up on the castles. "Oh, and look at that, we're here."
I smiled when I noticed that my favorite little hero was waiting at the door. I knew that he was determined to be the first to wish me a happy birthday, so we set Fionna down, and Marshall told her to stay there while I got her 'surprise.' I walked over to Finn and we hugged, and he happily said happy birthday to me, to which I laughed and thanked him. When I finally convinced him to follow me, Marshall did all the introductions. "Well, Finnegan, meet Fi. Fi, Finnegan. You're both humans." he said, and he took a step back so they could soak in that fact.
Finally, Finn broke the silence, holding out his hand. "Hey, I'm Finn." he said, and that seemed to break Fionna from her silence too.
"Hi, I'm Fionna." she said, and they smiled and shook hands.
When we noticed that they were starting to get awkward, Marshall chuckled and wrapped his arm around Fionna, and steered her inside. He looked back and told me that I should probably do the same, to which I stuck out my tongue and he laughed. Alright, he might know about my crush too.
Marshall and Fionna were waiting by the inside doors while I attempted to move Finn. It seemed meeting another human put him in a trace, because he absolutely wouldn't move. I snapped my fingers in front of his face a couple of times, and finally, I just laughed and rolled my eyes, picking him up by the shoulders and flying him to the doors as we walked in. And, after that, the night went exactly like I thought it would. Bonnibelle gave her speeches, and we all had dinner. And after that, Marshall and I were directed to open the gifts.
We got the same of everything!
We got the same guitar picks, the same notebooks, the same everything! It was laughable. The only thing that we got different were from Fionna and Finn. Fionna had known about Marshall's birthday since the year before, and she had gotten him an old book about music, to which Marshall thought was incredible, and he actually kissed her cheek after he opened it, which effectively turned them both into tomatoes. I laughed, and opened what Finn had gotten me. I stopped when I opened it, and smiled. It was a bronzed guitar pick, and it had my initial on it. There were little music notes carved all around the outside, and little bats painted around my initial. "Do you like it?" Finn asked softly, and smiled.
"I love it." I replied, leaning forward and kissing his cheek also. Marshall laughed, and Finn turned away, but not before I noticed the dusting of red across his cheeks. I chuckled to myself.
After that, it was when the slow songs came on. It was unusual, though, because this time Finn didn't even try to dance with Bubblegum. He came straight over to me. 'Ole Bubble Butt actually looked confused, which made me laugh. I guess it was just because it was for my birthday, and all. I noticed that Marshall was dancing with Fionna, and I chuckled, before nodding to Finn when he asked me to dance and putting my arms around his neck. We danced a little, and when we got near each other again, a surprisingly quick, rock song came on. Marshall and I grinned, and Fionna asked if she could dance with Finn, and I started dancing with Marshall. He spun me around and we were both laughing, before I whispered something to him and he nodded.
We flew over to Fionna and Finn, and Marshall and I picked them up so they could float too. While on the ground we already looked like idiots dancing, in the air, it was even funnier. We were all laughing and overdramatically dancing to the music. Being this close to Finn, it was the first time that I had noticed that he hadn't had his hat on all night. His shaggy blond hair was falling into his eyes, and I chuckled a little, brushing it out of his face. He blushed and thanked me. We looked at each other for a moment, before he leaned down and kissed me. Finn kissed me.
Best birthday ever.
The party ended around three hours before the sun would come up, so then Marshall and I could make it safely home. Finn wanted me to stay in Ooo, but I laughed and said that he could visit us any time while I was in Aaa, and encouraged that Fionna would love to introduce him to Cake. He smiled and said that he would. Marshall and I used the Door Spell and brought Fionna home, and she thanked us for the fun night by giving me a hug and sharing a quick kiss with Marshall, which again made his cheeks go red. I laughed. Fionna went inside, and almost immediately we heard Cake yelling at her for going away for the night with two vampires without her. I laughed, but Marshall didn't even notice, as he was still floating there with wide eyes and his hand on his cheek. I rolled my eyes. "Come'on now lover boy, the sun is about to come up, and I'm tired." I teased, and we flew off.
We both went to bed that night, and we slept better than the dead. And the next morning, we woke up to a big surprise.
