This is a short poem I rushed, about Manaphy's long journey from its nest to its home deep in the ocean, a journey it makes by instinct. I hope I have managed to capture the sense of a continuous, seemingly never-ending journey, and how dangerous the trip is. Constructive comments welcome.

Journey Home

Further… a little further…

-

Long I have traveled

From dawn to dusk, day after day

Through times of sun and rain

To this calling, this distant voice

Singing out my name

Drawing me closer, closer

Beyond the reaches of land

Into the cool arms of the sea

-

Right from hatching, I have felt it

This distant place I have known all my life

Yet never seen before

A place where I can feel safe, secure

Away from the storms of the world

A home, a home of comfort,

Where nothing is wrong

Where nothing can hurt me

-

Thousands of miles I have transcended

Past mortal dangers I have swum

I have come close to death more than once

Nearly died, nearly washed into oblivion

But still it calls

It calls, and fascinates me

And I chase that call deep into the ocean

Deeper…deeper…

-

Long I have traveled

How long more, how many more dangers to pass

I do not know

But still I go on

Towards that calling

Towards the sweet song of my home…
