Behind the Wall
A thriving city, a metropolis
Sky-scrapers peeping over the walls
Watching the war with little pity
As innocent blood falls
A fortress, untouched by the ongoing struggle
Towering walls the impenetrable surround
Permitting no entrance...or leave
Trapped from within, by laws bound
Angels above, devils below, a heavenly divide
Peace ripping from the seams
Tearing free spirits, killing young hearts
Contained within the city walls, broken dreams
Above. A network of walkways, a metallic dream
The upper city a majestic space
Buildings standing tall, high and proud
Looking down with disdain at the tattered face
Below. Cast in the shadow of it's glorious brother
Eyes stare overhead, patches of blue sky barely seen
Cold webs of steel catch golden rays
Finding solace with a silver sheen
Behind this sandstone wall, lies my hope to live
Tugging at my life, calling my soul, the angel of death...
A tear trickles down my face at the sight of the closed gate
And it was outside the city walls, I breathed my last breath
