The Beech Tree
Disclaimer: I do not own Severus Snape or Harry Potter.
Rating: K
Note: Just a quick little idea. I wanted to see Snape letting go of Lily after the war and what was the best place than the place where they seemingly spent their summer.
It seemed like a dream as I moved over the relatively flat land. Just a year ago, I couldn't even stand. The tree is right in front of me and my heart and mind travel through time to a distant memory of this tree by the river but I can't remember it yet I knew it happened here. Here I used to meet her every opportunity we could be free.
Now, I don't have the past shadowing over me. I no longer have the memories although I remember giving them to Potter in the Shrieking Shack where he left me to die. Taking a deep breath, I feel content to be alive.
The tree is much closer; I gently rest my hand on its trunk and wonder briefly how many other secret friendships it sheltered under its branches. A half of an old photograph and the closing remarks of an old friend reside in my pocket. Reaching down, I dug a small shallow hole between the raised roots of the beech tree. "I did all I did for you but now, I will live for myself. I am sorry, Lily," Severus Snape whispered as he buried his mementoes of the past.
With a gentle pat of the soil, I rose and walk to the river once more before apparating to my apartment in Whiteshire where new things; things I didn't have in my old life: my job, my friends and my girlfriend await me.
