The shadows were closing in,
But he was unaware.
Danger was leaking inside his skin,
But he was too worried to care.
The battle in the dark came fast,
And he fought with all his strength.
He did not want this fray to last,
So he would try at any length.
Dodging death with all his will,
And winning at each duel.
But one opponent did him ill,
Calling him a fool.
The light shot towards his wounded eyes,
Creating a look of shock.
Although he told himself many lies,
This was one curse he couldn't block.
He felt as thought he would break,
As he fell into the abyss.
He wanted longingly just to take,
A look at the boy he would miss.
The one he protected with all he could give,
Would have to suffer more and more.
How this boy wanted him to live,
It pained him down to the core.
Now the tragic story of his life ends,
And we cannot bring him back.
