Reyna was shattered. But, being Reyna, she had one policy. To never let it show. To hid behind a mask of stone cold leadership. She had done it all her life. But, then came the invitation. It took the walls she had spent her entire life building and put a crack in them. No, not a crack. A gaping hole in her strength. And through it came the tears. For minutes, Reyna just sat and cried. Because the invitation that came in the mail wasn't just any invitation. It was the invitation for Jason's wedding to Piper.
~FIVE MONTHS LATER~
Putting on her black cocktail dress, with the signature touches of Bellona, Reyna realized that her dress really did fit the occasion, at least to her. It was the funeral of her and Jason. Not that they hadn't died out years ago. Every minute that ticked by, a little piece of hope flew away. Sitting down at the ceremony, she realized that in 30 minutes, it would all be gone. Unless...she could speak now. She could stand up and proudly say "I love you, Jason." Or she could do nothing at all. Let him be happy with the daughter of the love goddess. Looking at the bridesmaids walking down the isle, she saw Hazel, Annabeth, and Thalia. Her three best friends smiling happily as two of the people they saved the world with got married. Until Thalia saw Reyna. Thalia knew how Reyna felt. As a hunter, she wasn't supposed to fall in love. But there was Luke. The guy who broke her heart more times than she thought possible. First when he made Annabeth and Artemis hold up the sky, and joined Kronos officially. Second, when he told Annabeth he loved her all along. She had hoped that deep inside, Luke still loved her. Apparently he never did. And then finally, a month ago. Thalia had been talking to Nico when he let it slip. Luke had gotten married in the damn underworld. To Zoe Nightshade of all people. It wasn't supposed to break her heart. She wasn't supposed to shatter with this news. But, for a singular minute, she did. And then reality returned. So of all people, Thalia knew how Reyna felt. As Reyna watched Jason, smiling the biggest smile she'd ever seen, and watched Piper, returning that smile, every word Piper had ever said to her came back. With that, Reyna realized Piper was a wonderful girl. She also realized how happy Jason was with her. So when Hera said "Speak now or forever hold your peace," Reyna did what the best leaders do. She took one for the team. She thought of a saying a Venus girl had said a long time ago. If you really love someone, you let them go. Which is why two weeks later, Reyna became the first Roman to join the Hunters of Artemis. Because Reyna loved Jason enough to let him go.
