Sai gets the impression, a suggestion in the back of his mind that is just starting to take flight, that the red-haired girl brought to Konohagakure as essentially a prisoner of war, has become an object of fascination to him.
Maybe it's the way the light shines off of her glasses or the way there seems to be some sort of flame hiding in her vivid hair, or the fact that Karin looks straight through him and has no awkwardness with Sai from the very start—then again, Sai starts to get the impression that Karin is never awkward around anyone. She's the only one Sai knows presently who didn't stare at him like he was some sort of bizarre and eldritch creature when they first met.
So she makes him curious. A lot of people make Sai curious.
But not like this.
More study is needed, and in the process Sai manages to both weird Karin out, annoy her, and leave her slightly—ever so slightly—flattered.
She, of course, has not a clue what she's getting herself into.
And Sai will continue his studies. That vivid scarlet hair is nothing if not eye-catching, and there's just something about that voice…
