AN: The new ideas keep on rolling in. It's madness, I tell you! I'm back once again! Back this time on the non-crossover side of things, ladies and gents, with yet another idea that wouldn't leave me alone. In this one, we find Naruto and Sasuke born as twins to the Uchiha clan… or, at least Mikoto. Hopefully, you all enjoy this one as much as I enjoyed writing it. First chapter's a little short, but this is just the introduction, after all. Now, onwards, to a new adventure, and no flames as always!
DISCLAIMER: I do NOT own Naruto, all rights go to Masashi Kishimoto.
Happy. Scared. Ecstatic. Angry. Angry? Yes, angry. Mostly at himself, but it was still anger. All of these emotions took their turns marring the features of one Namikaze Minato, Yondaime Hokage of Konohagakure, as he stood upon the threshold of the hospital room he was called to. Lying within the beds clutching two babies was Uchiha Mikoto, matriarch of the Uchiha clan, wife of Uchiha Fugaku… and the mother of his two illegitimate sons.
Upon receiving word that Mikoto had given birth to twins, both Fugaku and Minato had dropped what they were doing at the time to rush to the hospital, with the Uchiha Clan Head barely beating his Hokage to the scene so he could see "his" sons. Soon enough, Kushina had also arrived so she could coddle her best friend's babies and for the better part of two hours, the two women held, coddled and rocked the two boys while Minato put on his poker face and congratulated Fugaku.
Now, another hour later, everyone had left, with Kushina returning to hers and Minato's home and Fugaku retiring to the Uchiha Clan Estate in order to arrange for accommodations to be made, as he and Mikoto were expecting one child, not two. Finally, alone and with the boys sleeping soundly in Mikoto's arms, she raised her heads from her children and smiled brightly at Minato.
"Mina-kun…" Kami, the way she said his name still sounded like it was being uttered by an angel. "Say hello to your boys."
He hesitated to move even an inch, as the memory of the night that should never have happened resurfaced. It was shortly after he had been nominated as Hokage, but before the Jounin were called to vote. He was still reeling from the back to back deaths of two of his team, Obito and Rin. He had fallen into a mild depression and he had been caught shedding a single tear one night when he was sure he was alone by none other than Mikoto. She was also in a haze, as she and Fugaku had just gotten into a rather heated argument about whether or not Itachi would make a capable heir, as he abhorred any type of physical violence and wasn't living up to Fugaku's standards.
With cross words being said by both sides, Mikoto stormed out of the estate and took to the darkened streets of Konoha's night life where she eventually stumbled upon Minato. Sensing that something was wrong, she took a seat next to the blonde Jounin and the two just… talked. They talked, and the conversation soon turned into venting for both parties… and then, whether it was desperation because of his mild depression, he'd never know, but Minato had realized just how beautiful she looked under the light of a street lamp, long raven black hair, matching black eyes and ivory skin, all three seeming to glisten under the lamp's illumination. Meanwhile, Mikoto had also realized that Minato's cerulean blue eyes caught the light perfectly and his bright blonde hair gave him an ethereal, almost regal glow, befitting the man who could potentially be Hokage within the week.
They didn't know why they did it, but they both shared a kiss under that streetlight, and this kiss soon became a heat-of-the-moment, knee-jerk decision made by their collective subconscious to ease the pain they were both feeling. One Hiraishin jump to Minato's private safehouse ensured that there would be no prying eyes to witness their infidelity – not that they even knew what they were doing was remotely wrong at the moment, as it felt so right to them… until the next morning when he woke up to a very naked and positively glowing Mikoto sleeping right beside him. That was the point where he absolutely hated himself because he gave into his baser needs and completely threw Kushina's feelings, and the fact that they were very happily married, out the window.
That feeling returned again full force as he stared at the two mops of black hair that were his sons. He hated himself, he hated that it happened and he hated having to cover it all up. Neither Fugaku nor Kushina were any the wiser of the adultery and he hated it.
With a barely audible gulp, Minato stepped fully into the room finally and closed the door behind him, erecting his most powerful Silencing Seal around the room as he did so.
"What…" He finally found his voice. "What are their names?"
"This is Naruto." Mikoto said, slightly shifting the baby held in her right arm. "He's the elder twin… and the one Kushina helped me name, considering I was expecting just one child." She giggled at the antics of the woman she still considered to be her best friend. "That explains why he's named after a ramen ingredient."
"Naruto…" Minato took the baby boy into his own arms and smiled, despite himself. "Naruto Namikaze…"
"And this is Sasuke." Mikoto lightly rocked the remaining baby. "Fugaku and I decided on that name very early on."
"Naruto and Sasuke Namikaze…" Again, Minato smiled as he sat upon the edge of Mikoto's bed and regarded his youngest son. "My boys…"
"Despite everything…" Mikoto began as she stared up at her lover. "We did good, Mina-kun." The smile then dropped. "But what are we going to do now? The twins have been born, Fugaku thinks they're his and Kushina's also pregnant." The stare turned desperate. "What will we do?"
"What could we do?" He retorted. "Koto-chan, we can't let this come to light. I'm Hokage now, and if it were widespread knowledge that I have two illegitimate sons and that you were the mother, both of our families would suffer. Fugaku would want my head on a spike, the Uchiha clan might very well rebel, and, worst of all, my enemies would have even more of an incentive to target both myself and my family; their first targets would be our boys because the fear of my Hiraishin being combined with the Sharingan would be too much for them to accept."
"So you'll allow them to be raised by Fugaku?" She asked. "As Uchiha and not as Namikaze?"
"My clan's just been formed, Mikoto, as I've just recently become Hokage. The Namikaze don't carry nearly the weight as the Uchiha, or even the Uzumaki, do. By letting them be raised as part of the Uchiha clan, we can guarantee them a better chance than if I were to acknowledge them as mine." He calmly explained, trying his hardest to ignore the growing lump in his throat. He was saying in polite terms that he would never openly acknowledge them as part of the new Namikaze bloodline, in effect labeling his sons as bastards… and Mikoto knew this.
"Mina-kun…" She was now desperate. "Fugaku would raise them to be weapons! The only reason he hasn't done so with Itachi is because he genuinely disregards the boy as a legitimate heir to the Uchiha name! With not one, but two sons, he'd not make the mistake of coddling Itachi, he'd make it his mission to shape one or both of them into the perfect heir, the perfect weapon with which he can use to destroy the enemies of the clan!"
Despite their Mother's screaming, the twins were sleeping like rocks. Seeing this, Minato tore his eyes away from his distraught lover and gently rocked Naruto in his arms. "Look at them, Koto-chan." He continued to rock his son. "They've been born in a time of peace, a peace which I fought, bled and killed many men for." His gaze shifted from his son back to the Uchiha matriarch. "I'll be damned if I let these two boys go through what we went through. They're to know peace like we were never able, they're to laugh with their friends and live long lives without knowing the sting of war. I won't let Fugaku turn these innocent souls into emotionless husks that Danzo would be proud of."
"Then acknowledge them!" She cried out. "Damn the consequences! If anyone wants to harm a hair on their heads, they'll have to go through me! The only way that we can guarantee their upbringing is if we raise them ourselves!"
"And what about Kushina?!" He sharply asked. "She's my wife, and she's pregnant right now! Aside from the boundless political concerns, it would kill Kushina to know that I cheated on her! I won't put either her or the village through any of it because of a stupid mistake on my part!"
After letting his emotions get the better of him, Minato could have sworn he heard something shatter. And if he didn't know any better, he'd say that it was Mikoto herself. Something did break within her, however, and it was something more serious than he could have guessed.
The rational part of her was screaming at her, saying that she knew all along that Minato couldn't acknowledge the twins… but there was that one part of Mikoto, that tiny part deep down that was hoping that he would do so, despite the danger. She knew that she loved Minato. Ever since that one night that conceived the twins, she knew that she loved him. She didn't consider it cheating because she felt her marriage to Fugaku was more political than anything else… but now she knew that he considered their affair, their sons a mistake.
Mistake.
Mistake.
MISTAKE!
The word echoed within her very being until finally the dam broke and an impenetrable darkness seeped out and tarnished her soul with its sinister hues. She didn't know what it was, and she wasn't sure she wanted to know.
The Curse had found its next victim.
"Mistake…?" She finally voiced after a few moments of silence. "Is that what you think of our sons? You think they're mistakes?" Her voice was eerily calm.
"Koto-chan…" He tried to placate her. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean it!"
"Don't call me that." She lowered her head and began to rock Sasuke, her bangs hiding her eyes from view. "I'm not your 'Koto-chan' anymore."
He knew he'd fucked up. He didn't know to what extent, but he knew he had fucked up.
"Koto-chan." He tried again, worry flashing within his sapphire orbs. "I don't think they're mistakes. But despite this, they'd be safer with the Uchiha clan. I'll assign them personal tutors when they come of age so Fugaku can't get his hands on them."
"Get out." She dismissed him and his attempts to make amends.
"Koto-chan, I—"
"GET OUT!" She all but raged as she whipped her head up, Sharingan now blazing fiercely in her eyes.
Another few moments of silence passed as the two stared each other down. Shakily, Minato laid Naruto upon his Mother's lap, stood, took down the Silencing Seal and left without another word being uttered at about the same time that the twins began crying.
"Shh, shh…" She cooed the boys as she took Naruto back into her arms and began rocking them both. "Kaa-chan's here for you both. She won't let anything touch you; she'll always be there for you…"
(With Minato: Same time)
Instead of jumping right to his house with Hiraishin, Minato used the long walk home as an opportunity to clear his head. With his thoughts mostly collected by the time he arrived at his destination, all progress he had made of recomposing himself flew right back out the window when he opened the door and saw who was keeping his wife company.
"Minato!" Kushina jovially greeted her husband and stood, with help from her guest. "How's Koto-chan? She and the twins alright?"
"They are." Minato nodded as he shut the door behind him, eyes fixed solely on their guest. "She just wanted to arrange a few things for their future, that's why I was so late getting back."
"That's very kind of you, Otouto (Little brother)." Their guest spoke. "What a benevolent Hokage you're turning out to be."
"Are you teasing me, Keiji?" Minato challenged his big brother. "Or do you seriously mean it?"
"Oh, who would I be to challenge our new Hokage?" Keiji ran a hand through his spiky golden hair. "I'd be flattened in a second flat, considering the Hokage is supposed to be the strongest, after all."
"What are you doing here, Keiji?" Minato once again challenged, this time adding a death glare to his question.
"Just here to let my little brother know that I'm leaving Konoha for a while." Keiji shrugged. "I've been invited to join the Shugonin Junishi and I've accepted the offer. Don't know when I'll be back, but I thought I'd let my rightful Hokage know."
"I'm glad you let us know, Keiji." Kushina stepped in, attempting to diffuse the situation between the brothers. "And I wish you luck. Be sure to swing by when our daughter's born, will ya?"
"I will, Kushina." Keiji nodded to his sister-in-law. "And I'm looking forward to seeing which one of you she takes after."
"I'm excited for you, Nii-san." Minato put on his friendliest face as he extended his right hand. "Just know that you'll always be welcome here in Konoha should you wish to return."
"Konoha will always be my home." Keiji nodded and grasped his brother's hand. "Just make sure it's still standing when I come back." He then let go of the offered hand and brushed by Minato on his way to the door. "I'll be taking my leave now. Can't keep the Daimyo waiting, after all!"
"Bye, Keiji!" Kushina called after him, waiting only until after the door closed once again to sigh. "He's still jealous, huh?"
"Yeah." Minato nodded, then let out his own sigh. "It came down to either myself, Orochimaru or him and Hiruzen chose me. Now Orochimaru's disappeared back into the ranks of ANBU and my own brother hates me… sometimes I wish I had turned down the offer."
"And subjected Konoha to Orochimaru's odd quirks, or Keiji's hardline tendencies?" She retorted with a quick peck on her husband's lips. "No, you were the right choice. We just finished a war and we need someone with a kind heart to lead us into this new peace."
"I still hope I can live up to what Hiruzen saw in me." He brushed past his wife and all but fell into the couch. "And now I have to plan out what I'm going to do to help Mikoto and Fugaku with the twins."
"What did she ask you to do?" Kushina asked, sitting beside him.
"Just to look out for them and to help with their tutoring once they come of age. That's about it."
"Who do you think you'll assign as their tutors?"
"Honestly? I want Keiji to work with Naruto and Kakashi to work with Sasuke. If Keiji doesn't return by the time they're of age, then I want you to take over Naruto's training."
"Me?" She was stunned. "Why me?"
"You're the most skilled Kunoichi I know of, besides Tsunade-sama and Mikoto." He reasoned. "And I believe Naruto would flourish under your guidance. Of course, you can still say no…" He trailed off with a smirk.
"Hell no!" Kushina shook her head. "I'm helping train that boy! Both of them, in fact! Koto-chan's like a sister to me, and I want to help her as much as I can! If that means helping train both of her boys, then hell yes I'd do it, 'ttebane!"
"But you're already training Itachi…" Minato sweatdropped. "Aren't you involved enough already?"
"Don't like it? Then you should have never said anything about me helping train them!" She stuck her tongue out at her husband.
Despite his genuine laughter, Minato couldn't help but think about Mikoto and his sons. He was worried about her. He felt something off in the air, something dark. He didn't know what it was or where it was coming from, but he didn't like the feeling. Something was going on behind the scenes, he just felt it, and he hated being left out of the loop.
Little did he know that the objects of his worrisome thoughts were what were causing his uneasiness. Little did he know that he had set into motion a domino effect that would alter events yet to come. He had unknowingly doomed his lover to the clutches of her clan's curse. Only time would tell if this act would bring doom upon the world or whether the twins would rise above their clan's stigmata.
Naruto and Sasuke Uchiha. Twins, brothers… and at the mercy of fate. Would they triumph, or would they fall? Either way, they'd do it as brothers.
AN: DONE! What did you guys think? Good enough for an intro? I have some interesting things planned for Naruto and Sasuke, that much I will say straight up. But as for the intro goes, what will Mikoto do now that she's fallen prey to the Curse of Hatred? Will she do the very thing she accused Fugaku of wanting to do? Will she turn her sons into weapons hell-bent on destroying Minato and everything he loves? Will Minato and Kushina die during the Kyuubi Incident, robbing Mikoto of her vengeance? Only time will tell!
Now, onto the pairings situation. Obviously, Naruto and Sasuke need a love interest, so I want some suggestions from you all. Who would fit well with a Naruto whose been raised by the Uchiha clan? Who would fit well with a Sasuke who has grown up around our lovable little ball of energy as his little brother? If I were to place my own vote, I'd say that I'm leaning more towards someone like either Temari or Ino for Naruto and Karin for Sasuke, but things can change! Suggestions would be appreciated and keep in mind that there will probably not be a harem for either brother unless some good cases are made for a harem.
Also notice that I haven't included Minato and Kushina's daughter in on this yet. I'm not quite sure what I want to do with her yet, honestly. She's going to be plot significant, but I have no idea what I want to do with her in regards to a pairing. If you guys want to give me suggestions for her as well, then go ahead, it'd give me something to think about, at least.
