This is a drabble and a half (150 words) written for the Dictionary of Quotations Challenge where we were given a quote from the Little Oxford Dictionary of Quotations. My quote was: "We must take our friends as they are." - James Boswell, Scottish lawyer.
"It doesn't matter!" James exclaimed staring into disbelieving amber eyes. "Look, we're supposed to take our friends as they are, that means putting up with Sirius' awful jokes, Peter blowing up cauldrons and your…" He struggled to find the right words. "…furry problem!"
Remus smiled slightly. "And your obsession with Lily Evans?"
Sirius grinned from the other side of the hospital bed. "That's right, Moony!"
The werewolf raised a tired eyebrow. "Moony?"
"Yeah, because of the moon…"
"I get it Sirius." Remus replied wearily, his eyes drifting shut.
"Do you think he does get it?" Sirius asked later when they were sure Remus was asleep.
"He got the joke." James replied wearily.
Sirius sent James a look. "Not the name! Do you think he gets that we don't care he's a werewolf?"
James looked thoughtful for a moment. "No, I don't think he does. But we'll prove it to him!"
