Disclaimer: I wish I could own Game of Thrones but I am not that lucky.
Jaime Lannister sat by his brother's side in the hospital room waiting for him to wake up. The car accident they had been in had been horrible. The drunk driver had hit Tyrion's side of the car. It didn't seem fair that the other driver got off with no injury and Jaime himself only got a bump on the head.
The doctor had explained because of Tyrion's size and the angle of the impact there was massive trauma to his face. That being said there was a possibility that Tyrion could become blind and may never see again. His brother had been sleeping for a couple of days and Jaime could not bring himself to leave his side.
Tywin Lannister had seemed unusually quite when he received the news and unable to look at his injured sons and left abruptly. That had been hours after the accident and he hadn't returned to the room since. Jaime knew he was in the hospital somewhere. He had always unfairly blamed Tyrion for the death of his wife and their mother. The fact that he was a dwarf didn't help the situation. Jaime could never blame his younger brother though.
Jaime jumped at the sound of Tyrion waking. He moved closer toward his brother and waited. It was only a few moments before he heard his brother's voice.
"Hello," Tyrion said hesitantly.
"Tyrion," Jaime answered grabbing his hand, "How do you feel?"
"Like I've been hit by a truck," was the reply blinking his eyes, "Can you turn on the lights?" Jaime heart stopped hearing the question.
"Tyrion they're on," Jaime told him carefully, "The injuries you got caused damage to your eyes. They said it could be temporary."
"What…." Was all his younger brother said.
"I'm sorry," Jaime told him squeezing his hand, "The guy was drunk and ran a red light and hit your side of the car."
"I bet father loves this. Just another reason to prove I'm a disappointment." It was no secret how Tywin Lannister felt about his 14 year old brother.
"Why," was all Tyrion asked, "why do the gods hate me?"
"They don't," Tywin said from the door before Jaime had the chance to answer. Both Jaime and Tyrion jumped. "You're a Lannister. Always," The brothers listened in shock as their father actually spoke kindly to Tyrion. "The drunk that hit you won't ever have the opportunity again."
"What did you do?" Tyrion asked softly blinking his red puffy eyes.
"A Lannister always pays his debts," Tywin said simply, "We will do everything to help you but the other driver will never see you again."
After a month Tyrion Lannister gained his eye sight back and a good tentative relationship between father and son began.
