Short. Unbeta'ed. mid-angst.
Disclaimer: Fujimaki-sensei still owns KnB.
Kuroko wonders sometimes, when he's in class and the teacher forgets about his presence, he looks by the window and let his mind drifts away. He drifts into a 'What if' universe that ultimately has him cringing at his own thoughts.
Kuroko imagines what if Aomine-kun never gets too strong, what if he just had to keep sending pass to him, continue being a shadow to Aomine-kun's bright light. They would have gone to daily practice as usual, with Momoi-san on their track and Kise-kun happily bustling about everything. After an intense practice they all will go to the konbini to have ice-cream, he would win and give Momoi-san the extra because he'd be full, Atsushi would have bought an entire box complaining about how hungry he was. Eventually they would have to part ways and he would have glanced in Akashi-kun direction just a tad bit longer than needed.
Kuroko imagines too if Murasakibara-kun never challenged Akashi-kun and the latter never undertook that drastic change of personality. Their team would have stay, well a team and maybe they would all have become closer to each other's, if the five of them were not blessed (or cursed) with geniuses abilities. In this world Kuroko would still have Ogiwara as childhood friend and Aomine-kun as best friend. He might as well have someone for boyfriend but that's the moment where his thoughts started to muddle.
The teacher starts to read something and Kuroko fixes the nape of his friend, well if everything would have been great with Them he would not have come to Seirin in the first place right? Which means not meeting Kagami, somehow imagining this Kuroko feels a little lonely, he likes the gruff redhead, in a friendly way mind you. But then, what if…
What if he didn't get hurt into the semi-finals of their third championship, he would have been able to play against Ogiwara-kun's team, which means he would have lived up to his promise. Maybe they would have won or lost Kuroko can't decide on this, but either ways this means he would have stayed with them until Graduation Day. During this time he would have get a little bit closer of his captain, maybe watch him playing Shogi by himself, kuroko never understood how he managed to play against him but well it's Akashi-kun so…
Then he will try to convince the slightly taller boy to come with him at Maji Burger to have a vanilla milkshake, he could picture Akashi-kun shaking his head in mid-exasperation at his antics, but seriously the vanilla shakes were that good. They would have talked about their High School choices (in Akashi-kun case his father's choice) and maybe, maybe Kuroko could plan to join him too, because he likes Akashi-kun and his captain would have smiled gently amused at how Kuroko was able to say such things with no embarrassment whatsoever. And what if something deeper than friendship developed between the two of them, what if Akashi-kun makes his move and transport Kuroko in a world where the sun shine so much, so much and the wind is so gentle and the birds are singing and Kuroko would be falling, falling so hard but it was ok because for once Akashi-kun would have been by his side. He will kiss him, tell him he's glad Kuroko's here with him, hold his hands and in this world they would not have to worry of others opinions and Akashi-kun wouldn't be so pressured by his father. They'll go in the same high-school and play basketball together and Kuroko would have been so happy.
So happy he feels like crying.
Fin.
