A Caged Bird Freed
A caged bird was born, ensnared by fate,
Sealed behind bars and locked away.
Glowing green marked his head,
Trapping his soul, igniting his hatred
A terrible ransom, stole all he loved.
Bars became tighter, rage brighter
Hidden away was the flame of anger
Destiny became his self-imposed cage.
He broke his wings, bloodied his chest
Searching for the key of freedom
Cold remorseless and broken
Were all his pale eyes showed
Then his barriers were stabbed
Bright light beat against his metal walls
Shattered the bars with a few words
And a fight between opposing beliefs
Life changed, goodness and joy returned.
Amends were made and bond forged
Vows unuttered were taken for protection
New heights obtained to uphold the oaths
The green mark remained
A constant reminder to him
Of all that was past and done and left,
An ever present cage waiting to trap him
Finally the fated day approached
Wooden beams were launched, pinning him
His back pierced to save his cousin, his choice made
With the now freed bird's last breath, his final green cage faded
His final words resonated
Strengthening his savior's resolve
Tears were left for better days
Until the final battle was won.
