Having just reached home, Remus was going through the utensils in the kitchen. He was ravenous.

Remus had spent the whole day watching Harry; he had wanted to talk to him, but had been told he couldn't. It was hard for him, watching his best friend's son's misery and being unable to help him. He couldn't ask Dumbledore to assign him a different job, either. Their-the Order's-only jobs were guarding Harry, keeping an eye on the things going on in the Ministry and convincing people that You Know Who had indeed returned.

He remembered the first time he had tried to convince a man about His return. To say that it had been challenging was the understatement of the century. That man had hardly heard him. Remus' past was apparently too horrifying. And after that, all he got was guarding jobs.

"Stealing something?" He heard a familiar voice.

"Not waking up the whole house tonight?" he asked, turning to face Tonks while smiling weakly.

"Not tonight," she grinned at him, reaching out for the sandwiches.

For some weird reason, Remus felt a little awkward. After that first meeting when he had helped her, Tonks and he never really socialized much. Whenever they spoke, there was always a third party and most of the time it was Sirius. And boy, did Sirius know how to fill in empty conversations.

"Are you alright?" she asked, noticing that he had spaced out.

"Uh, yes," he mumbled.

"You don't look alright." she arched an eye brow questioningly.

"That's the best for someone like me," he whispered. His eyes widened at the truth he had spoken, usually he made sure that he was never the man to be pitied.

"Someone like you?" she clarified.

"Well, werewolf and-"

"That's stupid!" Her voice rose.

He simply watched her, surprised. "So what if you are?" she continued.

"Listen, I'm not the usual breed people want to socialize with. They fear me! They think I'm going to bite their heads off. Once they get to know of my nature, I'm an untouchable…You have no idea what it feels like. I should be used to it by now…" Again, he didn't know why he was explaining it to her.

As if to prove him wrong and comfort him, she squeezed his hand. He felt warmth fill his chest.

"You didn't ask for this to happen. Even after it has, you are more human than any of them could ever be. You shouldn't base your feelings and thoughts on what they think-no one should! You only live once, why bother about what others think? Those people who are scared, just let them be! You have friends here who accept you just the way you are, they aren't afraid of you. Because they know you… And I know you," she squeezed his hand again, willing to understand.

"Thank you," Remus said, his voice was husky with emotion.

He squeezed her hand back in response, and she smiled.
