Dreamsand
Children don't get insomnia.
Most likely, teenagers and adults are more prone to it.
They say the common causes of insomnia include anxiety, depression, stress, change in lifestyle and uncomfortable sleeping environment.
For Jamie, though, as he curls himself in his blanket, apparently insomnia came to him in his early teenage years. He tiredly stared at his bedside alarm clock, which read, sadly, 2 AM.
It wasn't like a 13-year-old to still be awake at this hour, but just a few minutes ago, he had witnessed the worst nightmare of his entire life.
He sat up and stretched. He wanted to yawn and go back to sleep, but he was afraid he'd have that nightmare again. He got off the bed and weaved through his bookshelves, desperate to find a book that could send him back to a blissful sleep.
But no, this time, he realized, he had read all these books too much, and they were all petty children books. He still loved them, though, but he wasn't in the mood to be reading them.
Exhausted and feeling defeated, he plopped back to his bed and tried thinking of possible solutions.
Soon enough, he sat back up and dashed towards his bedside drawer. He remembered he had something to cure sleepless nights with.
Dreamsand.
A few years back, he remembered he had met the guardians face-to-face. The four of them, but not Jack, since he didn't believe in him then. He remembered that his alarm suddenly went off, and Abby went ballistic running around the room chasing after Bunny. The scene was pretty hilarious, but Jamie was more worried about Abby running around the room.
Sandy had spilled a lot of dreamsand that day, since he had created a big ball of dreamsand to try to coax Jamie into a deep sleep. That didn't work, due to some certain circumstances that were uncalled for, like the ball accidentally hitting Bunny, Tooth and North square in the face, so all Sandy had to do was sprinkle a little bit of dreamsand on Jamie by nodding directly at his face when he landed towards him after North fell on Jamie's bed.
Jamie smiled, remembering the incident. He now realized that Jack was the cause of all that mess, but he couldn't blame him at all.
He opened the drawer and picked up a small box. Once opened, the bright light of the sand shone all across the room, making Jamie's smile even wider.
He remembered after that rowdy night, he had seen all the scattered dreamsand on his floor and decided to sweep it up. But he couldn't just throw it away. It felt precious, something he'd need for later use.
And he did need it.
Sighing in relief, he placed the box on top of his bedside drawer, beside his alarm clock. He took a pinch of it and laid back down on the bed. Wearing a smile, he sprinkled the pinch of dreamsand over his face.
He finally yawned and closed his eyes, his mouth still held a smile.
