A/N: Look who's not dead! does a dance No, not L, lovely though that would be - me. I be back after almosta year. 'Cause Death Note is just that awesome.
Disclaimer: I own this notebook I decorated to look like a deathnote...

He waits until he gets home – savoring the feeling, savoring the sweet taste in his mouth and the sudden purity of the air. He's dead, he's dead, he's dead, he died in my arms and now he's in a morgue cold and naked and unable to do anything more, he's dead and I have –
He has –
He slips out of his shoes and carefully lines them up next to the door, resisting the urge to open the notebook right there and see his prize. No, first tea should be made. Have it in a fancy cup to celebrate. Some chips too, why not, the irony makes him smile – up the stairs now, feeling the shape of the notebook tucked under his jacket. It's still there.
He opens his bedroom door quietly, slips through, and locks it behind him. He goes to the desk and switches on the light. The tea and chips go neatly next to his writing space. The notebook goes directly in front of him. The god goes in the chair, lays his hands on either side of the dull-looking black cover, tilts his head back for a moment – indulge –
He has –
He can't wait any longer. Open the book. Flip through the pages – blur of ink, names, people dead and gone good and gone – not many names, Rem always was soft-hearted – the last page. The name. The name. His name. I have his –
The final name is scratched out.
Light sits without moving, without speaking. Soft-hearted Rem. L is dead. The god sits in perfection, perfect beauty, perfect knowledge, perfect justice and so to the victor go the spoils, and this book has only dead people is it and so L is dead but I –
He rips the page out. He tears it into tiny pieces, ragged-edged, crumpled, and he closes them in his fist and he shuts his eyes. It is a long time before he moves, sitting still as the tea cools and the sun sinks down, draining away the holy light.
A/N: The idea for this little thingy came after reading several fics where Light met L after the series' conclusion, and by some means or another (usually after lots of trust-building exercises, angsty apologies, and fluffy bonding) learned L's name. It occurred to me - Light would already know L's name. All he'd have to do would be to open Rem's deathnote and read the last name in there. XD But I don't really like that idea - I prefer L having that one last thing, even in death. evil grin Light-chan, I am so biased against you it's almost mean...
