Jack Sparrow breathed in deeply, relishing the smell of the ocean. It was his favorite part of being a pirate. He held his hand out over the water, generating a small waterspout easily, thanks to his elemental power. Water had always been a comfort to him, and sailing was his way of being free.

He looked over at Elizabeth Swann, who was pointedly not looking at Will Turner. The pair had had an argument a while ago, one that Jack hadn't been privy to. He studied Elizabeth, who stood near the bow of the ship. Her brunette hair whipped around her face in the wind, shining copper in the sun. Jack found himself comparing Elizabeth's hair to her element: Fire. The strands looked like dancing flames, both beautiful and dangerous, much like the woman herself.

Jack had admitted to himself his attraction towards Elizabeth a long time ago. She was beautiful, yes, but also intelligent and witty, and willing to take action for what she believed in. He had no illusions of where her affection lay, however; she was very close to Will, who was a better match for her. Aside from the fact that Turner was in fact not an outlaw, he was also a metal elemental, more suited for Elizabeth's element of fire.

Jack turned away from Elizabeth, returning his attention to the ocean before him. He didn't see her come up to him until she leaned against the ship's side next to him.

"You never did tell me your element."

Jack gave her a slight smile. "You haven't guessed yet, Swann?"

"Hmm, if I had to guess..." she started, a smile in her voice. "I'd say...water."

"Correct you are, Swann."

"Water and fire," Elizabeth mused. "We'd make an odd pair."

Jack was at a loss for words. He didn't want to speak for fear that he'd reveal his true feelings for her. But then Elizabeth turned towards him, meeting his gaze. "Don't you think?"

Her demeanor was relaxed and attentive, waiting for answer. Jack swallowed. "Indeed."

Elizabeth's lips curved upwards, and then she leaned forward and those lips were on his, her hand resting on his face. Once he recovered from his initial shock, Jack returned the kiss, bracing his hands on the wood railing on either side of Elizabeth. They broke the kiss after a few minutes, and Elizabeth murmured, "That's what Will and I's argument was about. You."
