Professor McGonagall will admit that she and Dumbledore were close friends. That they confided in each other when it came to giving advice and secrets. They did not mean that they agreed on everything that one thought. An example of this was if Severus Snape should be a professor at Hogwarts. He was, after all, a Death Eater and they had to assure the safety of the students at Hogwarts. They argued over this every time they were in a room together. Dumbledore had to see that Severus was not fit to be a professor of any kind, with a history like his. The arguments always started with a statement or question from Dumbledore like: "Would you like a lemon drop?"
This argument came about when the older man entered McGonagall's office. She was at her desk grading homework when she noticed her dear friend standing in front of her desk.
"What can I do for Albus?"
"You know Minvera, I do love knitting patterns."
"That's very nice Albus, my answer still stands." Minvera sighed moving the assignments to the side. "But I'm very curious to why you are so persistent?"
Minvera raised an eyebrow at her friend, urging him to get to the point and not give her philosophy nonsense.
"Well, if you must know. I'm fond of the boy."
Any of person that wasn't Minvera would have been shocked to hear that Dumbledore was gay. Any person that wasn't Minvera would have pointed out that Albus was ninety-nine years old and that Severus was twenty-one. Instead, Minvera McGonagall looked into her friend's eyes and said very calmly.
"Albus, have you not learned your lesson after Gellert?"
"Ah, Gellert and Severus are two different people. It is too late for Gellert, but Severus still have a chance. I would like to stop a repeat of history."
"Oh, alright. I suppose that he could become a professor, but under one condition Albus."
"If it's only one."
"He can not become the DADA professor as long as you live."
"Very well Minvera."
The old man then left McGonagall to finished her work.
