Chapter 1
"Amber Chamber!"
I felt the tears streaming down my face when Effie Trinket called my name for the Hunger Games. It was a Quarter Quell, so my good luck from Mom felt like nothing now. The special thing about this Hunger Games was that family went in. When a girl was chosen, her father had to go in, if father was dead, then mother. Vice versa for the boys. My father wasn't dead, he was very young and energetic. I was only twelve, how could my name been chosen? The odds aren't my favor. I saw my mentor up on stage sitting in a chair. She look almost exactly like me. Then the name popped in my head. It was Katniss Everdeen! I had always admired Katniss. Time passed and soon I felt myself looking down at the boy tribute coming up behind me as if he didn't understand. It was my father.
"Amber..." my father said stroking my hair.
"Please don't cry," I said weakly. He gave a slight nod.
"Now for the male tribute!" Effie said twirling her finger is the other container. It was a while before she finally pulled one out.
"Chris Orcher!" she cried out. I stiffed. He was 14, and his mother was a victor. He'd be hard to beat in the games. We walked away soon after. I was hoping that I'd win this, even though it haven't even started. Soon me and Chris were at the train to go to the Capitol. I'd only seen pictures of it and the people there, it seemed crazy!
"Hello." I heard a stern thick voice. I look over my shoulder. Katniss Everdeen with Peeta Mellark following."Hello fire," I said knowing she had been called The Girl On Fire when she was in the Hunger games.
"Don't call me that." she said stiffly and sat down. She looked rather rough for a victor.
"Fine." I snapped at her. Effie looked at me then Katniss and shrugged.
"I am your mentor, maybe you should respect me if I can give you advice to save your life in the arena." she said suspiciously.
"Manners!" Effie called to me.
Rule number one: Respect your mentor(Even if she can be a pain the the butt)
