"What happened? When did you guys start hating me so much?"
Osomatsu laughs, a boisterous laugh that sits misaligned with his Karamatsu's words. "Hate you? You think we hate you? Ha, you're like a girl, always so sensitive!"
He wipes his nose, as is his signature quirk, before actually addressing his brother's question, throwing in a lazy shrug as he does.
"You know we're just teasing you. It's funny! You can't expect a group of brothers our size not to single out one of the bunch!"
"You don't ever wonder if you're going too far?" Karamatsu's voice cuts like a dull blade on his skin. It doesn't quite break through anything, and it doesn't sting like he knows it's meant to, but it stirs a reaction in his mind as he rolls over the question.
'Too far'? When had they ever gone 'too far'? Nothing comes to mind. Sure, Ichimatsu is kind of… intense… but he just has an intense personality! Nothing can help that! This guy's being ridiculous, always the ever-so-dramatic type.
It's not until he sees the dejected expression on his face, one that isn't for show like Osomatsu usually assumed, that the oldest stops to reconsider his idea of 'too far'. This is where his smile takes cue to drop off his face, and the whole room seems to darken as a result.
He knows they treat Karamatsu like shit. None of them wants to be in the second's place, but he's never argued before about being their sole target (or maybe he has, only to be ignored), so its not like Osomatsu would know. He can't expect to know his brothers' feelings like that anymore.
Better yet, he realises, it's that he doesn't care. Not for Karamatsu's feelings at least. He couldn't give less of a shit about whether his closest younger brother likes the 'games' they play with him. He doesn't care that they're probably (definitely) the reason he's always digging for outside approval. He doesn't care that about the times they've blown him off, even when he was injured enough for a visit to the hospital after some of their 'roughhousing'. He wouldn't even care if Karamatsu vanished one night, or if he packed his junk and left, never to look back at his family or return.
Honestly? That scares Osomatsu. It scares him to see what a sick bully he is to his brother. This was supposed to be fun, just a few tricks and some teasing. It's what kids do after all, and sure they may be adults now, but clearly they weren't grown up. It wasn't meant to turn into this.
When did he cross that line to feeling such apathy toward his brother? When did they all cross that line?
"I don't know."
