Shadow of the Day by Lina Ben
I don't own Pokemon or Linkin Park's song Shadow of the Day.
It was a cold but humid morning in Whisper Forest, just days after Summer the Espeon and her cousin Spring the Leafeon had visited the grave site for the Sneasel clan. Summer's other cousin, Rain the Vaporeon had been hunting and he had just returned to the hollow tree, that they all called their home. Summer was thinking about her estranged brother, Winter the Umbreon who had killed the Sneasel clan more than a year ago. "Summer, are you alright?" asked a sweet voice. It was her mother, Rainbow the Espeon who had asked her. "I'm fine..." Summer mumbled, looking out towards the dark trees.
After the family had eaten their breakfast, they all decided to go to a nearby river for a swim. When the family left, Summer could have sworn she saw blood red eyes peering out at her from a nearby bush. When she looked again the pair of blood red eyes had gone. Sighing, she walked on to catch up with her family. The family of Eevee evolutions arrived at the river quickly. Rain and Spring dove into the water while Rainbow the Espeon and Summer's father, Thermal the Flareon sat on some cool rocks near the water's edge. Summer walked into the water and slashed water at her two cousins and played with them in the water for a few hours.
Later, Rainbow called Summer out of the water to talk with her and Thermal. Summer dried off quickly using her Sunny Day attack and walked over to where her parents were sitting. "Honey, we heard from some of the other Pokemon clans that Winter is back." The Espeon said quickly. "Mother, Father, I know what I must do. I must go to the top of the Ying Yang Cliffs. There I will face Winter for the last time…" Summer said, knowing that there was a chance that she might die. "You can leave at dawn tomorrow." Thermal whispered to his only daughter, sadly. The family left a few hours later and walked home. Summer let a single tear fall to the ground before leaving the river, wondering if she would ever return.
At dawn the next day, Summer was saying goodbye to her family. She licked her father's cheek and whispered "Don't worry Father, I'll be fine." She new what she just said was a lie, but she didn't want her family to be worried. She said goodbye to her mother and her two cousins and leapt off into the dark forest. She traveled all day to get to the Ying Yang Cliffs.
When she got there she saw that Winter was already on top of the cliff face, waiting for his beloved sister. Summer climbed up the cliff in a daze, as if she was already seeing her life flash before her eyes. When she got to the top, Winter was standing on a rock. Summer looked around quickly, taking in the beautiful sight of the vast valley. "Summer, you're here." Winter the Umbreon murmured. "I'm ready for the fight of my life, but are you ready?" the Espeon snarled at her brother. "You are the shadow of my day, but you are the light of my night…" Winter whispered to his sister. As the sun began to set, Summer and Winter prepared for the end. Their last fight as brother and sister was about to begin.
Thank you for reading. The last one-shot of this story will be called "In The End" and be sure to read "Leave out all The Rest" and "Minutes to Midnight". The last quote in the story was a quote that I made up recently, and I don't know what the quote means. Again, thank you for reading.
