"Two thirds of our fleet gone?!" Lt. Jason Forrest of the R.E.F shadow fighter squadron Renegades said in disbelief. The battle at Reflex Point had caused heavy loses to the earth forces but the R.E.F reinforcements had almost broken through the Invid line and destroyed the Invid hive, until a group of ex-soldier and civilians turned on the R.E.F and prevented them from getting to the Regis. "Sir you're the senior officer of the Renegades now. The commander and the second where killed by those traitors in the hive. The SDF-7 is now the R.E.F flagship." Replied first lieutenant Jessica Briggs ignoring her new commanders shock. Forrest shook himself mentally, the Invid have taken so much from him, his family and home wiped out in seconds during the initial invasion and now he lost so many friends when the Invid destroyed the R.E.F fleet while leaving earth. "If it weren't for those traitors we would have gotten the Regis and neutron s missile never would have been launched." Jason said as he slumped his shoulders. "It seems they believed the Regis when she said this war would destroy both human and Invid kind." Jessica said to Forrest's unspoken question. "How could they believe that? The Invid where on they're heels, Reflex Point was one of the few hives they had left! They let the ones who wiped out most of the people in north America go and let them kill a few hundred thousand more in the process!" Jason said bitterly as he slammed his fist into the side of his shadow fighter. "Are you okay sir?" Jess asked concerned. "I'm fine Jess, I'm just blowing off some steam." Jason replied. "We've all lost so much sir. I don't blame you for being bitter." said Jess with tears in her eyes. "My Mother and Father where right here trying to rebuild Ontario sector when the Invid landed everyone in the settlement was killed." Jess stopped crying all of a sudden like a thought dawned on her. "Its all over now isn't it sir?" Jason thought for a second and said "The Invid are gone earth is free but the SDF-3 is still missing, the SDF-7 is probably going to send a search party for them." Another pilot walked over to them. "The Invid are gone that's all that matters to me. That and the victory party some of the other squadrons are throwing at the old stadium. Ha you guys look like hell." the tall blond haired man said as he took in the black haired young man and the redhead women sitting next to him. "wadda ya say commander why don't you two get off your butts and join the party and have some fun for a change?" Both Jess and Jason looked at each other and started to smile "Damn Greg you have the ability to cheer anyone up!" Jason said laughing at Greg Williams the pilot he met when he first joined the squadron "you know if it weren't for your partying you'd be a major and in command right now!" he said smiling as he stood up "Lets party!" As all three of them walked toward the huge party going on, each one of them they knew their struggle wasn't over and humanity paid a heavy price for its freedom but it will continue on to survive and grow. to be continued in part 2 "renegades rebirth"
