Summary: Hermione and Ginny friendship.
5-year-old Hermione Granger smiled at her mother. She was so happy! It had been her 5th birthday and they were about to go to the bookstore to get Hermione some new storybooks.
"C'mon, Pumpkin, we don't want to be late!" her mother cried from the doorway. As they went into the bookstore little Hermione heard two 6 year old kids talking. She wanted to get away from their giggles. So, she went over to the children's section, picked up a book to read and immersed herself in it. Then she heard one of the big girl say something.
"In Kindergarten, I hear that no one likes her. A freak. Only boys talk to her. And that's cause they think that she is a boy. Always reading. I bet that when she grows up she will never have a boyfriend. That Hermione Granger," one of them said. Hermione ran all the way to her mother, tears streaming from her face, thick and fast. Her mother consoled her, despite not knowing what had happened.
End flashback
"Hermione, are you listening to me? Or are you staring at those two muggle girls. Hermione Granger was startled and jumped out of her daze. Those two girls, they were the two who had called her names when she was young. Her blood boiled as she remembered how hurt and sad she had been.
Ginny Weasly was quite patient, especially with her best friend Hermione Granger. But today, the bushy haired witch was remarkably unfocused. Very unlike her normal sharp self.
Then, the two muggle girls whom Hermione had been staring at walked over to the pair of them . One of the two girls looked them both up and down. When she looked Hermione over, her face contorted with disgust as if she had seen something vile and grotesque. But when her gaze landed over red-haired Ginny she smiled.
"Want to come with us? Instead of spending time with her?" the other one offered. Ginny's welcoming smile disappeared immediately.
" She is my best friend, thank you very much. And she is definitely prettier than you. Inside and out," Ginny said angrily. Hermione did not say a thing but simple bit her lip and her expression looked like she was going to cry any moment. Grabbing the taller and elder witches hand firmly, she dragged the brilliant witch into the nearby food outlet.
"Why didn't you stand up to them?" Ginny demanded.
"Because they are right, I am ugly!" Hermione said with her head in her hands.
"That's rubbish! Hermione, you are beautiful. Maybe not in that showy, 'I am so pretty that I can be dumb' way, but you are beautiful!" Ginny said heatedly. Hermione smiled and took the tissue offered by her younger friend.
"You're right, Gin. Thanks," Hermione said and wrapped her friend into a hug.
