"Honey, I'm home!" Vera's fiancé joked as he walked into the house and placed his work bag on the side table.

"Hi!" Vera shouted from the kitchen. "How was work?" She joked along.

Her fiancé walked in to meet her and hugged her from behind as she stirred some pasta sauce at the cooker. "All good, nothing the governor couldn't handle!" He smirked as he kissed the back of her neck.

She turned around slowly and smiled at him, kissing him quickly on the lips. "Oh, how you flatter me!"

Her fiancé grinned at her. "Penny asleep?" He asked.

"Yes, but she's due a feed."

"I'll go check on her." He smiled, running up the stairs to greet the baby.

Vera finished making the dinner and sat down and sighed. She couldn't believe how happy she was. For the first time in her life she felt truly content. She had a fiancé she loved and trusted, a beautiful baby girl and a job that was finally in a secure place. There was nothing more she could possibly want.

"Dinner smells nice." Her fiancé said as he re-entered the room holding Penny.

"You must be starving. I'll feed her and you can eat."

"No no no, I want to feed her. I'll eat in a minute."

Vera laughed. "If you insist."

"Hey, erm, there's actually something I wanted to talk to you about, while you're sat down." Vera said as they both finished their dinner.

"Okay, what?" Her fiancé asked.

"We need to talk about what's going to happen in the future."

He gave her a confused look. "What do you mean, like the wedding?"

"No, about the baby."

"Penny is fine, she's got the child minder and Bridget always helps out whenever she can."

"No, not that baby…" Vera admitted, looking down at her empty bowl.

"What baby then? Wait… You're not?"

"Would you believe me if I said I am?" Vera gently laughed. She couldn't even believe she had gotten pregnant with Penny at 40, let alone another child now that she was 42.

"Oh my God Vera, this is amazing!" Her fiancé beamed.

"Are you happy?" She asked nervously.

"Are you kidding? Of course I am!" He laughed as they both stood up and kissed slowly. "What about your job though?"

"That's another thing I wanted to talk to you about." Vera began. "I don't know how I can still be governor with two kids! And after everything we've been through… I don't know if it makes sense to leave. I don't like giving up but I just want to do what's best for our family."

"Hey, I understand. And we still have plenty of time to work all that out, but for now let's just focus on this." He replied as he reached out and gently touched Vera's stomach.

They both looked at one another and kissed again, their smiles irremovable from their faces as the joy radiated from them. Neither of them had ever felt happy this before.

"Can you believe we're getting married and having another baby?" Vera asked her fiancé as she rested on his chest as they lay on their sofa.

"No." He laughed. "Honestly if someone told me a few years ago that this was going to happen I never would have believed them. But you know how happy I am, don't you?" He asked as he sat up so that she would be forced to turn around and look at his face.

"Yes." She answered.

"And you know how much I love Penny and our new little baby?"

"Of course. The fact that you adopted Penny tells me every day." She smiled as she leaned in for a kiss. "And what about me?"

"You know I love you so much, Vera Bennett."

"I love you too, Will Jackson."
